Barnsley's demise coincided with Nicky's departure. FACT.

    David Geddis + many more..

    Stuart Gray
    David Hurst
    Mick McCarthy
    Trevor Aylott
    John Beresford
    Carl Robinson

Most of which because we let them go for much less than their worth and never replaced with anywhere near the quality - in many cases costing us very dear in terms of final league position.

    It did, but

we also lost Higgy and Curtis that summer. The whole right side of the team went. We replaced those three with Alex Neil and Carl Regan. And then we wondered why we were suddenly ****.

    Went for a song.
Still a year or two left in him and, with a decent partner after Ward's departure, could have been the dream ticket out the right end of that league.
I am certain that his departure was not a football decision - I suspect history between him and Hendrie at Middlesbrough was the sole reasoning behind it.

At least we got a packet for Ward and a decent sum for Redders, given his age. However, Fjortoft and Liddell we gave away. Yes I know we got decent sums in a way but to put it into perspective, the combined income from those transfers scarcely paid for Dyer.

Pat howard, Ian Banks, and a whole host more, Higgy in recent years cause it meant that losing at wembley was going to cost us dearly, Ward, well he held the club to ransom, wanted a transfer and refused to play again til he got one, not missed with that attitude, Redders, good luck, he gave us his best and deserved another season (or 2 ) in the prem

    John Beresford.....

I can remember being well peeved at him leaving the club. Another one was Anton Otulakowski - the rumour mill was rife about him leaving the club along with Martin Gorry prior and during a certain evening game. The transfer was confirmed the next morning. The most gut wrenching transfer out of Oakwell for me, however, was when Mick Butler joined Huddersfield Town -- mind you, we did get John Saunders in return

lets be honast about matters if weve ever had anyone halve deacent in the past and other clubs with more ambition have noticed weve snatched clubs hands off for a few louzy bob, fans of other clubs would have been outraged but we bare and grudge it, to be fair i think time are changing a bit but still. i was discusted at time at people on the board that show this level of ambition especially as weve spent most of out history as a 2nd division team (lets talk old money nar not league 1 ****** etc)

    Neil Redfearn........

because of all he gave whilst with us on the pitch. But I understood that a million quid for someone of his age was good business for us.

Did you notice that they never played together when Hendrie was manager??? it was SO obvious.... one would always come on for the other whilst goal hanger Ward was an untouchable. Really lost a bit of respect for Hendrie at that point, shame as he was such a hero... (clap)

Ward was over rated and got an aunrealistic write up EVERY week during our premier season... I was more gutted that Morgan went to our rivals and that De Zeeuw took a step down the leagues:eek: . How about hero Gerry? :'(
