Leeds. Absolutely cannot stand them, particularly in the last 3-4 years. I have quite a few friends who took no interest in football 5 years ago suddenly talking about Xg and Marcelo Bielsa’s bucket. Grow up.
Rivalries have changed over the years for me. There's not much point having local rivals you never play so going back to the 70s the big games were against Bradford and Donny. Leeds at that time were on a different planet. Then Rotherham became the main rivals for a while and I guess since then it's revolved around the Sheffield clubs and Leeds. To be honest I don't much bother these days. All clubs are much of a muchness with good fans and bad. I'd have to vote with Helen on the Millwall front though. That's a club I really do detest.
For some of us of a certain generation Grimsby should be up there. Haven’t played them for a long time now but still can’t stand em. Old grudges die hard.
My first-ever away game. Hell on. 4000 fans, 4000 sociopaths. They really have a problem with Yorkshire teams. I was very pleased when they dropped into the Conference - again.
Wednesday!!! Pure and simple for me.... even the tides of time havent mellowed my outlook down the years! Even though I have Wednesday supporting mates from school etc.... they're still the smug, sulky , brattish people they were as kids! I could go on forever about my reasons but I'm pretty sure anyone who was brought up in my era (leaving school in 81) will understand?
Haha. I love Val and Al. Particularly the latter. But of course I want us to beat them more than the rest.
Leeds - by miles. Can’t stand em. When I drive into the City limits the hairs go up on my neck and I develop a second personality. Did I mention I cannot stand them.
I really don’t care. in fact I’m a bit conflicted about the Sheffield clubs, I enjoyed them both going down last year but I’d be perfectly fine with them both getting promoted (as long as it’s not at our expense, and if Wednesday could clean up their act etc) Hudds Rovrum and Donny I’m always pleased to see do well (as long as it’s not at our expense). There’s a few Leeds and Wednesday fans I know who get on my nerves with their ‘big club’ attitude, but generally I’d rather see a Yorkshire team win than not.
Must be mellowing. At one time I'd look for all the local fixtures straight away. Just a glance now. I suppose the true Derby for them and us. Were the games against Rotherham. Working in Sheffield most of my life. The games are allus special and no matter how much they harp on about they are only interested in united v wendy. Believe me, they want to beat us, as much as we want to beat them. Hate little old Barnsley getting bragging rights. The Banter with my workmates is special though.
Don't think the players won't need any motivation for this fixture given some of the comments made public of late. Really want us to beat them for the players.
Leicester City , getting coined by 12 years in late 80s early 90s really irritated me , and I was enjoying them going out of business , then they ran rings round the Football League got promoted with a team they couldnt afford and never looked back. Now I am a bit ambivelent as we likely never play them again
