Does anyone have any photos of The Old Pavilion or any photos of Barnsley from the 70s and 80s? I love looking at pictures from that particular era given that I grew up through it (well the 80's anyway) but can't remember that much about it. I can remember the Alhambra being built, but only vague memories of what was there before it. I can remember going down Westway when that was first built, but can't remember the road layout before it was there. Casa Disco was a brilliant shop, I always remember wondering how many layers of posters were on the wall given that they had kept going over the top of the old ones for about 30 years presumably. I hardly ever used to buy anything from there (I would have if I'd had any money) but they would always give me a few free posters if I asked for them and my bedroom when I was about 13 resembled Casa Disco for a while although my mother wouldn't let me put posters over the artex on the ceiling!
Dollys was actually named after my great grandad. He was the landlord of the Magnet for years and was called Dalton Marshall, but everybody knew him as Dolly, hence the Magnet was known as Dolly's bar.
Used to love going in littlewoods as a young en! Getting in the car with the mother and getting ready to splash my birthday money on a load of cheap plastic tat that cost a small fortune.
all clubs, working mens, miners welfares political etc as they were in they're heyday seen some fantastic acts had some great games of snooker, pool darts cards dominoes etc. ps all for price of membership and affiliation and a few beers of course. hosted football teams fishing clubs and lots more.
Totally agree. The Old Pavillion was the pub in the 80's. I seem to remember the owners moved on to open Browns and Isaacs. Both bars had their time but were never as good as The OP.
