WHAT ABSOLUTE CODSWALLOP.........the players that got us to the premiership were stronger fitter etc etc. The so called greats of 78 - 82 were that good they did not get us up!

Danny Wilson's era was obviously the best period in our clubs history.......... and yes i was there with glavin, banger banks, big trev etc etc. Typical on here really....fans have had the best period and still harp back to the time when we did not achieve anything nearly as good as the Wilson era.

Thought about this long and hard and I can't seperate the two, they were both fantastic periods in the clubs history for different reasons. All the reasons people have already said, but for me the best thing about 78/79 etc. was the fact that we had never seen big crowds or tasted real success in my lifetime (born 1962) so that was unique and fantastic to see, like folks have said, who could ever forget the Grimsby Tuesday night match, 21,000 crowd in the 4th division, pure magic, followed by the glory days with Glavin & co v Brighton/Man City/Liverpool in the League Cup, etc. etc.

Then there's the promotion to the Prem era, what a fantastic day/feeling when we beat Bradford City to go up, total ectasy and euphoria, I doubt that I can ever be that happy again in a football ground!

I dont think the cup runs of the early period are better than the latter, we had Liverpool (0-0) then beating Man City but the latter period saw us in two Quarter finals two years running and defeating Tottenham & Man United, a decent go at Newcastle in the league cup as well. In my view the early period's crowds and atmosphere's were better but 1994-2000 wins with what the teams actually achieved, wins at Anfield, draw at Old Trafford. What l would have liked to have done is took Aylott and Glavin out and put them into the 96/97 squad.

The Premiership promotion season, and the 1 season up there, win hands down for me. Nothing whatsoever to compare to it.

1976 to 1982 was fun and we had some great players, but it doesn't even come close.

I think we all should wear a red carnation in our lapel so we recognise one another!
