Much more generous than that lake in Peasholm Park then.

It really depends on how much you want to spend and his personal taste. Amongst my favourite single malts at the minute in the £40 range are:
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/dalmore/dalmore-12-year-old-whisky/?srh=1
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/dalwhinnie-15-year-old-whisky/?srh=1
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/isle-of-jura-superstition-whisky/?srh=1I'm
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/singleton-of-dufftown-12-year-old-whisky/?srh=1

Or if you want a good blended malt:
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/j-and-b/j-and-b-rare-whisky/
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/johnnie-walker-green-label-15-year-old-whisky/

Unfortunately the best blended malt ever made has been discontinued (for now).

And if bourbon is his taste then these are my current favourites are:

    https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/15620/buffalo-trace-bourbon
    https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/1168/makers-mark
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiski...dford-reserve-kentucky-bourbon-whiskey/?srh=1
    https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/four-roses-single-barrel-bourbon-100-proof-whiskey/

There are literally hundreds to choose from and I love my whisky so if you see any and you're not sure I'm more than happy to give you my thoughts.

I always avoid blends so haven't tried that many, but found Famous Grouse to be acceptable.

One thing I'll say about single malt. I always find the first glass to be the best of the evening.

It's not a bad blended whisky but there are better in my opinion. I generally avoid them too but there are a couple of bottles amongst my single malts and bourbons.

I've nowt left mate. I had a bottle of Penderyn legend and Cardhu bought for Xmas and I've finished them both.

Can't leave em once their opened.

Did an insurance job in Ponty some years ago and this guy was a collector. His house was like a shrine to single malt. It was all over the place.

That would be a nightmare, I don't drink as much as I used to but always have five or six different bottles in the house. You're right though it's hard not to finish a bottle once opened. I had a small Glenfiddich 12 earlier. Delicious.

Not tried it. Just the 12 year old single malt. Very smooth.

That's because they're chemically similar. TCP is trichlorophenol, the smells in these peaty whiskies are also phenols.
