Weirdly none of the local sides really get up my nostrils - Wednesday are the obvious ones but I almost feel sorry for them.

Wigan on the other hand.... :D:mad:

Think Wigan might be up for that roll

When I was growing up in the '70's, Bradford City were our main rivals. The hooliganism that went with our clashes with them was truly dreadful

I think the reason why the majority us dislike Wednesday is not for football reasons but for their braindead fanbase.

I think your main rivals are those you're in direct competition with in the table. If you're fighting near the bottom it will be Birmingham, Huddersfield etc. Peterborough and Wigan from a needle perspective.

    Not sure about that mate.

I don't have a Bad Word to say about Our playoff opponents.

I like and admire Brentfords model.

Bournemouth fans were generally very gracious after we beat them.

They still are top of my list. I really hope they appoint Heckingbottom!

For me Wednesday are our biggest rivals closest team to us and we all seem to know a few plastic Wendy's who live on barnsley. The blades donny and a lesser extent leeds we have a bit of a rivalry with over the years.
I don't think anyone sees us as there biggest rivals though, Leeds are back on there one way rivalry with man United. United will always be wednesdays biggest rivals and visaversa and even tho donny seemed to build up quite a dislike towards us in recent years I think they class rotherham as there main rival due to geographical nature. The Wednesday always give it were too small and irrelevant not a rival to them but have spent most of this season talking about us.

I used to work in Doncaster and their fans used to tell me that they didn't see Barnsley as their main rivals. It all depended on where in donny you were from, some say its Scunny, some say its Wednesday and some say its Leeds (presumably because there is a ridiculous amount of Leeds fans in Doncaster). I did get the feeling that some of them absolutely hated Barnsley with the banter we used to have though. The LDV vans 5-2 game was often mentioned as if they had won a cup for it.

On another football related site. A Donny fan said Scunny were their biggest rivals. o_O
    Edit

Donny went off the radar for a 25yr gap 1979/2004 So a full generation where we didn't play each other. Boils their **** to see how we've succeeded in comparison. They've been in our shadow for long lengths.

I think with donny it isn't as big of a footballing town as barnsley even at grassroots level. I also find donny is a bigger town in terms of size and population but many of there natives follow leeds im not saying barnsley doesn't have there plastic fans but we have always had a far better home attendance in comparison to donny in the time I've watched us and I've seen us take 34k and 36k to Wembley for play off final and a fa Cup ssemi. That said I have enjoyed our rivalry with donny in recent years and was hoping they would get promotion this year but unfortunately not.
