Drew 0-0 at Wimbledon 4 days earlier, but that was...

...sandwiched between beating Reading 4-1 and Crewe 4-0, so not a bad time to be a Reds fan.

We called in at a pub near Wembley

For a drink, after the match. The landlord was somewhat reluctant to serve us at first, claiming most football fans were hooligans and wanted to start fighting. Ten minutes later a punch up actually started. However, it didn't involve any Barnsley fan. Two old, local blokes (looked to be in their eighties) started fighting over the same woman (a mere slip of a girl in her sixties!). The landlord broke it up and then sheepishly apologised to all the "Well behaved Barnsley lads".
    Happy days.

I remember that season well. We all expected to bounce back up to the Second Division. Little did we know that it would be a long 20 years before promotion 'back home' became a reality.

    Funnily enough

I was just thinking, as I read most of the posts on this thread, "Ooh, I remember that game". It never occured to me that there might be someone who could remember the season I was born in.
    Ultimate respect to you, sir.
