We go on coach trips with the CISL (union) cultural group made up of farmers professors, teachers, builders, mechanics (all levels of Italian society love their history ) basically so we can spend some time with Italians to help with the language and make friends) This was a overnight trip to the Pope's summer residence and to the National Aeronautical musem (the biggest in the world apparently) where the seaplanes for the Schneider trophy were developed and built. *The current Pope will not use the summer palace as he thinks it is too ostentatious given the current problems that Italy has.

The artwork is an uncommissioned -illegal- work painted on a concrete wall in the coach park. using only spray paint. Stunning in close up too. The detail and use of light is amazing.

    It's not Banksy. It's Hemsy.

Btd stands for "bored to death"

Some one told him he should start "grafting", but he must have misread it.

It is all over Italy. I regularly go to Milan and Rome, it's terrible on the outskirts.

Well it did originate in Italy - hence the name.
In all the major (and not so major) cities and towns 'Tagging' is epidemic, Milan is, as you say, terrible, mainly in the suburbs but even centres and tourist spots suffer it especially as the economic crisis/unemployment means many buildings/shops are vacant so are prime targets. It is not too bad in rural areas and most of our medieval hilltop towns and villages don't suffer from it but road & rail bridges embankments etc are all targets, often with political slogans
The proportion of Tagging and messaging compared to real graffiti is very high, but when you get 'Art' graffiti it is often very good or, like the picture I posted, outstanding.
