She's our next Labour MP. I hope to meet her tomorrow night in Elsecar. She is a trade unionist and a hard working party campaigner. She is very much on the side of the poor unlike our previous MP Dugher who did not oppose Tory cuts in welfare to the unemployed and the disabled. He said he didn't oppose because his Tory mates wouldn't like it. Yes I asked him. He said had not voted against the Tory cuts because they would accuse Labour of spending money! Dugher was for himself and Israel.

Because this is a snap election all candidates were selected by the Party HQ. There simply isn't enough time for the normal selection processes to take place.

A split of convenience; surely our political representatives wouldn't be so calculated and devious.

they arnt interested in anybody local, thats why she's been put forward into a safe seat...i remember ken capstick trying to stand as a potential labour mp for the ward which cover hemsworth.the party wanted nothing to do with him because he was a num man and mates with arthur scargill.the party was more bothered about it appeal nationally than it was about electing a staunch socialist.

Did Ken Capstick either come from or live in Hemsworth at the time?

I'm convinced Steve Houghton got his knighthood for not going for the Barnsley East nomination when Gordy Brown wanted to parachute Dugher in as a candidate.

She's been selected in a safe seat for the benefit of the Party. Not the benefit of Barnsley.

How do you know she won't be for the benefit of Barnsley? Anyone selected would be in A safe seat. As someone has already posted, there's been very little time for a normal selection process. I personally don't know of anyone locally who could step up to the mantle at this late stage. As a Barnsley East constituent I've no concerns at this choice at this moment in time. Obviously time will tell, but again that applies to anyone.

Seems a warm, genuine, compassionate person. Not sure what all the fuss about her not being from here is about. I mean Josh Scowen's a southerner we don't criticise the club for not signing someone from tarn do we? Life has moved on move with it.

It's probably something what desperate opponents will try and exploit to try to make a mountain out of a molehill, that indeed if there is even a molehill to start with.
