Clarke or Hunter, for the success they brought, but they are both dyed in the wool scummers so it taints it a little. Ritchie did us proud and was probably the most likeable manager we have had. Hill has a long way to go to be held in such high esteem but he has made a promising start.

Gudjon - did well despite the club being in total disarray.

Could only be marginally bettered by Spackman & Steve Parkin - two utter terrible periods of being a tarn fan.

    Norman Hunter for me

Only one fault in that he had to manage the side through the transition from the great 1981/2 team of Glavin/Banks/Aylott/Parker/McCarthy/Barrowclough etc and was unable to replace them with players of similar quality - but let's face it, anyone would have had a struggle with that. I reckon we would have still avoided the drop had we not sacked him when we did.

I also liked Bobby Collins, he should have had a longer stint at it.

And Allan Clarke (first spell) for galvanising the club and getting us out of the 4th division and on the way back to the 2nd.

Great times back then, big crowds great atmosphere players with real passion.....

To be fair to Hodges he did have to do the job with both hands tied behind his back. If my memory is correct I believe he did the job for less per year than the likes of Paul McShane are quoted to get a fortnight.
