    RE: Les Lea

You are bit out with the year but he was one of the the best we had in the early seventies. Think he was player of the season two years in a row.He was a teenage sensation at Blackpool. Came to us after injury - loved the place and stayed. Played wing and then later moved into the centre.
He still has a season ticket and sits in the East Stand lower. Hope he makes an appearance though he might not come on as a legend as he's just about the most modest footballer that there has ever been.

P.S. Bobby Doyle was Player of the Year in 1976!

RE: you are kidding aren't you??????

Scott Jones was an excellent player for us.
At one time he was reputed to be a £1,0000 player for us.
His 2 goals against Man Utd in the FA cup will never be forgotten by the Tarn.
He beat Schmeichel with 2 magnificent goals and even the 'great man' himself referred to them in his biography.
    Scott gave his all.
Bassett palmed him off on loan to Bristol Rovers when he became Manager and from then on his career went darn.
Scott he didn't want to leave but the Boss (Bassett) wanted him out to get experience.
Always a good lad, an honest lad and gave his all for the Tarn.
    A legend
I'm glad thet he received the welcome he deserved on Saturday

I bow to your superior knowledge

I was guessing with the Year.I played with Les for Ardsley House when he was about 39 years old and he was Player of the Year for us as well. He still looks sprightly even though he must be knocking on towards 60.

    Legendary goals..perhaps..legendary player Never

He was well below the required standard. Sorry Tina but its a fact.

Now so legendary, at 30, hes plying his services at Ilkeston town.

Not even a centurian though admitttedly not by too much which may in some small measure have been contibutary to our fall from grace.

    NO, NO, NO

I'm sick and f@cking tired of the negative twits who support Barnsley

Scott Jones might not have had a glittering career at Barnsley but he is partly responsible for one of the best nights in my life. Therefore he is a Barnsley legend

OK, so you support a team that doesn't have any glittering nights in Europe to celebrate. Anything that reminds me of better times is fine.

Scott Jones fecking legend because of one game. Just like Clint Marcelle is a legend for THAT goal. It isn't the number of games they played ... it's the memories they evoke

    Lets get some perspective

    Legendary Players IMHO

Tommy Taylor, Ronnie Glavin, Mick McCarthy, MIck Butler, Neil Redfearn, Clive Baker, Frank Bartlett, Phil Chambers, George Robledo, Danny Blanchflower, Barry Murphy etc

    Legendary Goals IMHO

Scott Jonesx2 - Man U FAC, John Hendryx2 - Man U FAC, Clint Marcelle - BCFC, Paul Wilkinson - BCFC, Ashley Ward - LFC, Owen Archdeacon LCFC FAC, T AYlott - BHA MC, T Aylott - MCFC MC, D Barnard HTFC D1, etc etc

Thats not negativity, Its just that I dont see Scott Jones as a legendary player.

I think people are getting hold of the wrong end of the stick

I thought neutrino put a question mark at the end of Scotts name because he didn't know who he was so thats why I said "you are kidding aren't you" it definitely ws a citicism of Scott because he gave our club one of its greatest nights ever and his goals will never be forgotten.

    Come on...

Wasn't one of the legends Jim Dobbin a few weeks ago... Who made that decision?
Perhaps it will be Jimmy Mann at the next home match.

Legends not mentioned... Futch, Dave Currie and Ian Evans.

There are certain incidents that evoke the term 'legend' within the football community.

Scott Jones' two goals aginst Man Utd certainly put him into the legend category for me. Barry Murphy's 600+ games fits him in there too.

I was fortunate to interview Scott and Barry on Saturday Before the Oldham game and i will honestly say that you couldn't wish to meet two nicer people. Both honest and down to earth and neither of them consider themselves to be 'legends'. As John Hendrie said when I interviewed him Quote'I'm not a legend, I'm just John Hendrie from Kirkintilloch' Unquote.

People have differing views on the whole legend business but as far as I am concerned; if someone plays for your club that does something that will FOREVER stick in your mind (Scott's 2 goals, Hendrie's 2 goals, Redder's leadership, Barnard against Hudders, Banks hat-trick vs Rotherham, Parker's back heel against Wrexham, Glavin for being Glavin)then these moments are the moments when dreams are fullfilled and legends are made. Enjoy them.

By the way, at the next home game, Les Lea will be the 'legend'. Any objections?
