Would also add that they should be banned from ambassadorial, consultancy and directorship roles (read well-paid cushy numbers) for at least ten years after their final term as MP. That way, the people who they may have been able to pull a few strings with should be out of the political system, making it much more difficult to call in favours.

Oh, and anyone who grows up with the intention of becoming a politician ought to be banned from being one. Go out there and live and work among your electorate first rather than just toeing the party line and arse-licking your way to the top.
