I like Eddie Izzard but he's fallen for the idea that the EU = Europe. So if we leave the political organisation that is 28 states then somehow the phone lines get cut, the internet goes off and planes trains and automobiles don't then travel between the UK and the continent. It doesn't really matter who won the debate or who wins the referendum vote. The referendum is not legally binding. Parliament doesn't have to pull us out of Europe and only a vote in favour by our elected MPs can set the necessary exit legislation which will be needed in motion. You would need a Parliamentary majority to pass the necessary legislation and I don't think that will happen in my life time.
But it would be political suicide to not act on the result of its people if it does end up being an exit majority
If we vote for Brexit, any MP that wilfully decided to play a part in not upholding the democratic will of the people would not be an MP after the next election, which may come earlier than planned in such circumstances unless they want riots on the streets.
Agree 100%. It is nothing to do with which side you are on. Eddie Izzard tonight was a total embarrassment. He was like a small yappy dog in a room full of grown-ups trying to hold a conversation. Like a dog with a bone, he made the point about Farage being a migrant but not 'supporting immigrants'- somewhat irrelevant in the referendum debate and just would not let it go when Farage didn't respond to his question. Even after the debate moved on he kept on about it and the Billions of £s he said that immigrants brought to the country and Farage refusing to answer. True or not, (although probably statistically true) he missed the point that members of the audience (and panellists) highlighted that it is about quality of life, and not balance sheets. Not that I support or like Farage, but he was trying to make the legitimate point whilst being shouted down by Izzard that he was not against migrants but planning an economy housing, infrastructure, business development strategy etc. is difficult with uncontrolled immigration (be it numbers or skillsets).. Personal attacks by remain are becoming tedious and repetitive as the same tactic was applied in the ITV debate and earlier when they targeted Johnson. Instead we had the usual make it about personalities not policy. I switched off after 20 minutes as it was like a school playground (largely thanks to the antics of Mr Izzard) I have made my decision but still don't know of it the correct one. We wont know -whichever way the vote goes- whether the alternative would have been better or worse. Anyone one who thinks they do, like some of the posters on here (on both sides), is deluding themselves. Contrary to what one or two of the posters on here think about me I am still full of doubts.
Go on then - I'll bite Ignoring Farage, Izzard didn't exactly cover himself with glory behaving as he did.
Totally agree, Geisla was particularly impressive in the way she put appoints across calmly in measured tones and her having direct 'inside' knowledge/experience certainly added weight to her comments. Amber Rudd came across as positively rabid and I totally agree abut Angela Eagle her voice is awful she doesn't sound confident and that pointing thing seemed false like she had been getting coaching on trying to look authoritative or something.
Who won? The politicians egos as usual. Yay look at me I'm on TV trying to mock and belittle somebody. Woohoo I can shout and raise my voice.
