Why can't dogs live as long as people?

Both my dogs have been ill this week. Given them an extra cuddle after reading this thread. I'm sure they're going to be ok but I can't process the thought of life without them at this point.

I'm genuinely sorry for your loss.

Sad to read, sorry for your loss. Been through it a few times, the last one absolutely broke me, still think about him every day 6yrs later, with a smile though rather than the initial sadness.

Remember them everyday, then they're still here in a small way.

    RIP Flo.

In 35 years of marriage we've had 6 Mastiffs 4 Rottweilers 2 Great Danes and it never gets any easier saying goodbye. Currently the 5th and 6th Mastiffs 4th Rottweiler and 2nd Great Dane are allowing us the privilege of living with them in their house and every time the current eldest (the Dane) whose nearly 10 (which is a very good age for a Dane) so much as sneezes or coughs it's a full health check for him from the Mrs and 24hr observation until she's satisfied it's nothing serious and he just loves the attention from her (he's a bit of a mummy's boy) so milks it for all its worth.

Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.

    Condolences pal.

When he was an unruly teenager his favourite way of saying hello was to launch himself upwards and head butt me in the bread basket and when a powerful Staffie does that to you it stings a bit! Thankfully he calmed down in his later years.

My/our little mungrel doogie mate was 17 and a half, when we had to have him put down. I'm afraid it was the right thing to do, but it felt awful and I sort of regret it still, to this day. :(
