incorrect

Cryne said IF box office players became available then we MIGHT spend more money to attract them. BarnsleyFC.co.uk said "Club will go for box office players"

I think the squad is weaker

Whereas before we had the good, young, willing dale tonge as back up for midfield we now have dwayne mattis.

CLUB WILL GO FOR 'BOX OFFICE' PLAYERS - CRYNE

BARNSLEY FC benefactor Patrick Cryne believes the Club will be looking to sign quality players this summer - and hinted that Newcastle United star Michael Chopra is on the Reds' shopping list.

In an exclusive interview with the Barnsley Chronicle, Patrick said: "If someone is 'box office', we're more likely to find the funds than if it is someone who won't excite the fans. Andy Ritchie is aware of that so we will be looking at key players.

"We are going to try to produce a football side that gives good entertainment and is a source of pride".

When asked about Chopra, Patrick added: "He is absolutely the kind of player I would like to see. The fans sent out a very clear message and Chopra knows he is very well liked at Barnsley".

Read more from Patrick Cryne in today's Barnsley Chronicle (Friday June 2, 2006).

    Oops!

If he'd splashed the cash as he said, then he couldhave had an asset valued at £5m at the club and we'd be safe in the Championship.

    I couldn't agree more...

....Cryneshould have kept his trap shut. But thats not because he said something wrong, he said it quite innocently and in my view genuinely.

The outcome however has been to give pillocks on here an excuse to moan about not signing Chopra and Wayne Rooney everytime we lose a game.

I bet he himself wishes he'd not have said it. I hope he never says in the media that he could murder for some Chip and peas, because they'd be SO19 round his gaff proper sharpish.

If Chopra's on what McPhail went to Cardiff for then imho, at the time, it would have been a nightmare to sign him. From a financial point of view and also from the famous 'team spirit' point of view cos he's have been earning way and above what anyone else was.

I just wish those in charge would get on with it, and not keep making statements in the press justifying their actions. The ppg fiasco is a prime example. If Davey's our man then back him and let him get on with it. The ppg issue has created a rod for Mr Shepherd's own back cos everytime Davey has a bad run, then his ppg ratio will get compared to the man who got sacked for getting 0.9 ppg or whatever it was. What a way to run a Football Club.

Shepherd should be banned from making statements full stop. Unless he can learn to stop making a rod for his own back.

That PPG fiasco has been the biggest joke at BFC since Lee Crooks played up front at QPR when we were 4 down.
