It requires a lot of movement and intelligent running by the supporting players or is exactly as you describe.

That's the fault of the players around the target man. There's nothing wrong with the role itself.

I agree 100% so why are we defending from the front, using our target man as a defender, not getting players up to feed of him ? Which was the question I asked in the first place why are we playing a defender up front because the way we are set up as a team all our target man is is a defender

Paul Wilkinson, Ashley Ward, Neil Shipperley. The latter two are the best centre forwards I've seen laik for us. I liked Ferenczi and COGba too. Target men. Most good sides have one. Wilbraham at Bristol for example. Kermorgant at Bournemouth. Giroud at Arsenal.

But them you mention where played as attackers playing the role of a target man the way it's ment to be played, these two are being played as defenders upfront not to create chances or get one on one with defenders and pull them out of shape turn and shoot and bring others into play but to keep the ball as far away from our goal for as long as possible

To be honest the op has got a good point.

The idea of a target man is great if used correctly,as someone mentioned Ashley Ward as a target man ,yes , but he could also run and dance and shoot with the ball.Today and many other days this season we have only come close to scoring via bungling the ball in the net never via proper play unless you take out Devante Coles time.

My opinion is that I don't like this type of football so far under Johnson ,pressuring with long balls 'hoping ' and that's all ,that we can get on the end of it .Reminds me of the terrible teams Dave Basset used to create.

This league as stated can and should be won by wingers crossing balls in for our target man to score himself or bring his other team mates into the action.

Wearing is a worse header of the ball than oddjob. He seems to duck under it. Winall would hd better playing upfront on his own if we insist on playing one upfront

Didn't particularly mean the side he inherited from Danny!! Rather the rubbish served up at sheffield u and Wimbledon, effective but not what I like to watch at oakwell.

Do you remember Georgie HRistov ,Hinckley we paid a million for him ,should have scored in playoff final in fact don't know how he missed and Barnards penalty so near a quick return to the big time ,how different it could have all been at Oakwell had we succeeded and got established with another influx of cash
