There should be responsibility taken on both sides.

Dog owners should train their dogs to not be afraid of fireworks, this should ideally be done from when they are a puppy but if you got the dog when it was older then it should be attempted then. It can take months to achieve so it needs to be done well in advance of known firework occasions. If the dog is still scared then calming measures can also be applied like plug in scents, collars, building a den, playing classical music etc. (Not like my neighbours who just shouted their dog’s name loudly every time it barked at a firework, probably scaring it more). Not actively doing everything you can to help the dog be prepared and then complaining about fireworks on the night is pointless.

On the other side though, it’s not just dogs who are scared, it’s terrifying for all wildlife and it’s not like squirrels and birds etc. can be taught to tolerate them. Setting them off at times outside of Bonfire Night (or a few days either side), Diwali and New Year’s Eve is selfish.

No issues with fireworks on specific dates.

But when fartsniffers let them off from Mid October to Mid November that's when I have issues.

Luckily my dog doesn't get scared, but I'm up at 5 for work every day and it does my box in.

Exactly how I see it. I was walking my dog on the 29th and some morons (parents AND children) were letting off fireworks in the middle of the street we were walking down.

The anti-dog lot on here are are baffling and no doubt all fervent meat eaters.

Generalised statement that lacks nuance and fails to acknowledge diverse viewpoints. I find that more baffling as a method of debate.

I will accept I'm a fervent meat eater, but I've never tried dog, nor wish to.

I have neither the patience nor the energy to debate this particular topic with people who, by and large, have no consideration or empathy for other species.

What’s the difference between a dog and a pig? Why one but not the other?

No idea. Bacon tastes amazing? Dog probably doesn't?
I'm not getting into the whole vegetarian debate other than, you're obviously veggie/ vegan? I'm not. But those of that persuasion do very often seem to be on a crusade to convert those who aren't, whereas I've never given a vegetarian grief for making their choice.

I love dogs. It's why I don't have one so I don't keep one locked up in captivity all day. I think that's far more cruel than fireworks twice a year

Avoid debating it then, but making sweeping generalisations about others is an ineffective and unproductive approach to any topic.
