Funny how some Barnsley younger players come good at other clubs; could it be just the getting away from what could be perceived as a Barnsley squad that ebbs and flows like a meandering river seemingly all over the shop but without leadership and intelligent direction. It must be unsettling for the players especially the younger and less-experienced ones.
According to many on here Mads wasn’t worth that, but he was. Averages or not, a fee is what a club is willing to pay and what the other is willing to sell for. I hope they do laugh at a valuation of a player I don’t want us to sell unless that type of offer is made. You can compare all you like, but many transfer fees don’t make sense, some work some don’t.
That’s fine, and of course yours and their choice, but some on here just can’t stop belly aching and in some cases verging on belitttling those that continue to go and support the club. The irony of course is, there are posts on here telling people to go watch 7th and 8th tier football because they don’t want to watch 3rd (and according to them) soon to be 4th tier football.
Over the years we’ve had ‘rejects’ from other clubs that have done quite well for us. It’s not uncommon for players who have been described as ‘crap’ and the like at one club to then prosper at another club, even when playing at the same level.
He’s a defender at a League one club, who by many accounts has had an outstanding season in the league below, he’s a left-sided player. He’s at a club who are not desperate (despite what you might think) to sell him. £300k is not realistic, indeed, it’s completely laughable
I'm comparing the market, that's usually how transfers work at this level minus some haggling, again, there's absolutely no way at this point Jack Shepherd is commanding a £3m fee. Peterborough sold Edwards, special talent, to a PL club for 3m with 120 games under his belt capped by England U19,U20's and now U21's, its not even close to a comparatable debate at this stage.
I think people are starting to watch more and more non league, fans of PL such is the general turn off across the game. I'll never have a pop or tell people what they can or can't do, it's the same with opinions there's fans that think things are still decent and fans that think the club is sinking due to interfering ideologies, its each to there own and keeps a good balance on the forum.
But they are saying they don’t want to stoop to watch a tier of football that is much higher than what they are telling others to watch. I’m glad more are turning to local football, I played and refereed in local football for years. My point is don’t say you’re not going to watch football because it’s 4th tier level, then start telling others to go to a lower level.
In your opinion of course. In my opinion No way is shepherd going for 300 to 500k. I repeat we should tell any bidders to start at £3 million or not bother.
I think, yet again, that this is ultimately down to the Barnsley board. Whether they are willing to bring the player back into the fold to develop him and play him with a view to building the team or whether they will accept a cheeky bid from Bradford or anyone else because they get a short term fix on the funds. And, again, we should be hoping that Hourihane has a big say on this and influences the decision. I'm not 100% convinced though that the board can be trusted to do the right thing for the longer term - whether that's retaining the player or selling because there are other irons in the fire. For me the no-brainer is to plug him into the defence asap in order to replace any one of three centre halves that are not very good. But what do I know?
I completely understand that and the hypocrisy attached to that statement. Personally I didn't hear much of that in the seats near me this season, however I did hear alot of fans saying they are done with the club whilst these owners remain and or fans saying they are done until there's a change of mentality, which of course is different to saying I'm not watching xyz level.
Its an opinion based on stats and facts though rather than just a figure plucked out, he'd need to be at the level of Edwards, Burrows or even Klarer, he's nowhere near their levels to be commanding that sort of fee.
All players go where the money is. That’s not up for debate. But the insinuation was Bradford would bid for him. My response is that they can’t afford him. They’re as skint as the next club and don’t pay the wages we do. He’s a fairly quick (for a centre half) defender above six feet tall, aerially dominant and early 20s with a left foot. They are a rare commodity. And thus, are valued appropriately. Is that value £3,000,000 as suggested elsewhere? Not for me. I think BFC would probably take a third of that. Because there’s not enough evidence right now to guarantee he can perform as well as he has in the fourth tier, in the third. Will anyone stick a seven figure bid in? I doubt it. Bradford can’t afford him. So that’s that. Ideally, he starts for us next season and proves he’s good enough at the level. Time will tell. And feel free to bring this thread back to the top when we sell him to the Bantams for an undisclosed fee.
I agree with you in regards where Jack is right now in his career, whilst a good player not at the levels to command 7 figure fees, with regards to wages, he won't be on big bucks with us so don't see wages as too much of an issue, Andy Cook is pulling in as much as Josh Benson, weather they bid or not who knows but I wouldn't be surprised at all, undisclosed as you say
