I wasn't taking it as a knock, I was meaning that the areas in New York such as Little Italy are more just historical as people have moved on, some are now home to other ethnic groups that have settled there....so for example an area previously populated by Irish is now almost solely populated by another ethnic group.

So I was not taking it as a criticism although some people seem to think I have.

As to 'erbs....well, like many good Yorkshire folk, I do tend to drop my H's.

I think you're refering to the Irishman

    O'bama.

He could be a woman or a black man. He's mich more convincing as a woman than that clinton bloke. Better legs.

Don't think Hilary could get away with being a black man.

    They won't

For a whole variety of reasons, but mainly because the Democrats are too busy pulling themselves apart. The fiasco over Florida and Michigan (I think) for one, also if the superdelegates come in and choose Hiliary then some will not vote for her because Obama has the most delegates and will say they didn't listen to the membership....I know one who has said they would even revoke their membership of the party. Others say that they should choose her because she has more support in the key swing states such as Florida and Pennsylvania.

and we think our politics is snide. Are you saying that due to fractions within the party, members will not support the other candidate if they win. You'll have to excuse my understanding, I struggle with english politics so the US seems a bit sit com.

    I know people that won't.

Particularly if Hillary is nominated by the Superdelegates - there will be accusations of racism and many blacks will feel disenfrancised and probably not vote at all. There was an interesting article in last weeks Sunday Times.

Part of it said that the Clinton's are intent on making Obama unelectable.....that even if he wins the nomination they would try to have put so much dirt on him that he wouldn't get elected, and that would allow her to run again in 4 years. That if Obama wins the Presidency, that the whole balance of power in the Democrat party shifts from the usual power brokers.

I hope Obama wins...but somehow I can't see either Democrat winning

I was making the point that its a world city

where you see people of all races and cultures living side by side. It wouldn't be integrated if you couldn't go in to those areas as they were ghettosided or no go areas, but areas such as China Town are tourist attractions in themselves. The point was if you walk down an average street in london or Manhatten you will see restaurants, bars and people of every culture

I appreciate that, but having areas such as these does not constitute integration. And whilst as was mentioned before it is not the case as much now, these areas still exist and are ghettos. Yes you can take an open top bus by day and China Town becomes a modern day freak show circus, but at night you are told to be careful where you walk. And yes that applies to all of new york, but the point I'm making is that it is multicultural, but is it fully integrated?

Agree but I was responding to the poin that multi-culuralism isn't about integration which i believe when succesful it is. and I have to admit I know London a lot better than New York, but if you take areas such as Clapham in London for example I would say they are integrated

'when successful' is a telling point. We are hung up on integration being a success criteria for multiculture. Why? Can't people live in the same towns but keep their identity, without imposing it on others or vice versa. For me that is success, and is true multiculture. Issues arise when people feel they can't be themselves and they must embrace anothers culture to boot.

Agree completely, I was just taking issue with otehrs suggestions that multi-culturalsim can't work at all and migrants should go back to where they came from - led to my heart on my sleeve comments!

A belief that multiculturalism doesn't work doesn't necessarily indicate a belief that immigrants should "go back where they came form." Rather that they be encouraged to integrate rather than segregate themselves.
