    Hang on a second

Why would an unemployed manager, with no real achievements on his CV from the last decade, be the best person for the job? It's only his connections to Barnsley that make him a candidate for the job.

Without his first spell at the club his name wouldn't even be linked. More successful names would be linked, and there would be no clamour for Wilson to be given the job.

Who are these more successful names?

Reality is, any decision is going to be divisive. Whoever we go for. Write down a list of managers we could realistically look to get - it's not a great list.

Before I answer this, I'm not saying yes or no to Wilson getting the job. I'm just responding to the comment that without his Barnsley FC connection he's the best man for the job.

More successful names? Based on the last decade I would say Phelan, Holloway, Davis, Warnock, Di Canio, Solskjaer ..... but I'm not suggesting them or saying they would take the job. I've not even given it any real thought on who is out there as the usual names just get recycled every year anyway.

Phelan would be a decent shout if you're going to go for an unproven choice. He has bags of general experience and is a great coach. Can he step up? Is managing O'Brien and Wiseman easier or harder after coaching Giggs and Rooney? I dont know....

    Nobody does.

He could turn out to be sensational. Or he could turn out to be Brian Kidd.

He was at United for five years as assistant, and they won the title three times during that spell.

Whether you like McClaren or not, he's got a decent CV as a manager. As has Bruce, Ince and Fergie JR (arguably)

id have him back. The only real bad point is the appointment has the ability to split the fanbase. We know how strong some people view issues of been **** on like scabs etc from the strike and how long that lingers. So how much of a grudge would some people have with wilson.

Wilson obviously has broad enough shoulders going to uts after managing swfc so i dont think it would other him. I just worry about a split fanbase when we need to be united.
