Let's just leave it at "not really old enough to remember him", shall we...

He was with us seven years

He was a true leader on the pitch and off it, a natural captain. He didn't 'desert' us. He simply warranted pay parity with some of the foreign players. After being the fulcrum of the team for a number of years, club & team captain, and top scorer, it was utterly ridiculous of the club to turn down his request. He captained the team into the Premier League for the only time in our history. When it comes to goalscoring, he got into double figures for five consecutive years from midfield. He scored more goals in the 1997/98 Premier League season than any other English midfielder (including the likes of Beckham Scholes, Lampard, Redknapp, Anderton, Parlour, et al). Openly admits, as confirmed in his book, the only club he loves is Barnsley. I'm not aware he talks about his present employers more than anyone else.
He was an oustanding player and servant to Barnsley Football Club and it's astonishing anyone who witnessed his performances would be so critical or disrespectful to a man who will go down as one of our club's all time greats.
It is my belief you are having a go at him

Neil Redfearn is a BFC Legend and that is an absolute FACT.

Anyone who suggests otherwise knows nothing about BFC.

I actually did not know that, but it backs up my long-held belief that he is one of the best English midfielders of modern times never to have been capped. Whereas Kevin fecking Richardson did get selected around the same time.

Will always be a legend, and maybe the one in a few years, but no experience. To get us out of this is someone that has that, especially in the Championship. As proven to Hill, the jump up from league one is too big

It would be an appointment with the heart and not the head, might get the backing of the fans, however he'd be possibly the least experienced manager we've ever had. Could work out, but I personally don't think it would.

Could be what we need to get the fans back, I mean, how many are going to use the excuse, 'i'm not going while Redfearns in charge' as many have used with our past management.

Good players do not necessarily make good Managers.

Don spoke about getting the fans onside and reuniting the club with the fans, so maybe an experienced manager with Redders/Taggart or both as assistant manager or coach.

Agree with Kev though, I started watching the reds late 70's but was too young to appreciate Glavin and the likes so Redders was my 1st real BFC hero and should have won a call up that year.

Many players kiss the badge but when Redders did it he meant it. Broke his heart leaving the club and I firmly believe if had stayed that year we would have gone straight back up.

Any manager worth their salt would be looking to get rid of a legend such as Taggart or Redfearn as soon as possible. They would know that any drop in performance would result in the fans clamouring for the favourite. We need a manager focussed on getting us out of this mess. Let them bring their own men in.

He should have been in the 98 world cup squad with a stat like that ;)

As opposed to perhaps sick note Anderton, David batty, rob lee or an overweight alcoholic and way past his best Paul merson?

He wouldn't have been outclassed in that squad.
