I think the phrase they use is 'interfering with play'. As Nuhiu's positioning clearly affected the positioning of the Barnsley defenders, i.e. they were playing him offside, surely he's therefore interfering with play, as he is directly affecting the actions of 4 or 5 Barnsley players. It does make a mockery of the rule though, as they only seem to consider touching the ball as interfering with play and don't consider things such as being in the eyeline of the keeper for example.
He is one of the bestest players ever, so how dare you? No discipline and dare I say a headless chicken at times .
Always rated him. Still do. But his weaknesses are more evident this season without a proper playmaker ahead of him ala Mellis/Butterfield.
Makes no difference; if we weren't so 5hite we'd have easily beaten them. That has to be the worst Wednesday side I've seen in over 40 years watching Barnsley and we still couldn't beat them. Personally I don't think Flitcroft knows what he is doing.
Yes Linesmen do wait to see if the player actively inteferres with play - as said above thats why there are so many late flags. The linesman waits to see if the player either plays the ball or attempts to play or dummy it. So the linesman in this case was correct to wait to see where the ball goes - had it been played towards Nuhiu then I would have expected the linesman to flag. As it went in the other direction towards Fryatt who was well onside he kept his flag down correctly. A few years ago it would have been offside but the rule was changed so now you have to actively try and play or dummy the ball to be offside rather than just be "interferring with play"
Of course you can - Personally I think the new rule is better than the old one but still the balance isnt right . In the old days I remember injured players over by the touchline being flagged offside - and one decision where a player ran through the defence and scored only to have the goal cancelled because another player 20 yards away was offside when the striker beat the last man. Its a tricky one to get right though. In any other instance than goals scored against us I wouldn't want to see goals like Fryatts disallowed
Agreed the balance isn't right, as pointed out before a player 10 yd away from Fryatt can affect the positional play of a defender. But look at our back line in that freeze frame, absolute shocking positional play. A decent defensive coach is needed asap.
if we'd played our style rather than sitting back and playing the Wednesday long ball in the second half, this wouldn't be a talking point.
