Duff will still be getting paid every week from Swansea. He’ll be in no rush to be coming back here and failing to get us promoted via the playoffs for the second season in a row.
I was under the impression that it’s a general clause on manager’s contracts. I remember a Premier League manager being reported as not desperate to take a championship job as he would be worse off.
Would you, as a former coach/manager, want to return to a club where you were fairly keen to get away from. The restrictions placed on them gave them no wriggle room at all and they were all so quick to exit the door. Why would you want to come back to the same millstone? I already feel sorry for the next man, he'll be in exactly the same position, having, of course, been promised the earth and then under the cosh.
I'm just basing that off past managers around the leagues who have reportedly been comfortable sat at home not jumping back into jobs because they're still getting paid a portion of their wage from the last job they had. A case right now is Graham Potter at Ajax, apparently he's a long way off getting what he wants in terms of wages from them and he's reluctant to accept less due to the money he's still getting from Chelsea. Obviously thats the top end of the leagues we're talking about but i presume a lot of managers still have it in their contracts, just to a lesser degree
Fell out with the Barton and got publicly slagged off by him, if I recall. Burnley recalled him from that loan and allowed him to come to us.
I think those reasons have been articulated many times. Whether or not you agree with those I guess is a different question.
Similar to the situation we were in when appointing Stendel. We had to delay his contract start as he was still on gardening leave from his previous role. It's not a case of only receiving severance pay while unemployed, but more likely a restrictive covenant or the fact that he's still technically under contract with Swansea for a period of time.
I think that was just Barton getting munk on and acting in his usual crass manner. I believe Thomas played every game at Bristol Rovers. Burnley recalled him as they wanted him to go to a better team (and possibly a better manager). Barton did what Barton does and had a rant, but he selected Thomas for every game while he was there.
I’d imagine the big issue is he knows our defence & keeper can’t play like his Barnsley defence & keeper did last season & he probably doesn’t want the job full time as I’d imagine he’s fully aware how many first team players are leaving & how little money there is to replace them. A top half finish will probably be a reasonable performance by us next season given the summer we’re going to have but say if Duff leads us to 11th no one’s going to be satisfied with that even though he will have in all likelihood done a decent job.
Very rarely works like that, some Managers have a clause that protects them until they get a job but that is few and far between. Most negotiate, standard seems to be 6-12 months.
Once again the ability of folk on here to make an assumption based on no evidence, turn it into stone cold fact and then use it to disparage their pet scapegoat boggles the mind.
The assumption being that we haven't spoken to Duff? Maybe we have, maybe we haven't. But if we haven't at least approached him then serious questions have to be asked. As you probably know I'm one of the last people to jump on the backs of those running the club as it's a thankless job, and amongst other things they keep BFC going by sinking in huge amounts of money every year. But the way the whole manager saga has been handled is farcical and amateurish. And by amateurish, I mean things have gone on which I'd be astounded at the incompetence of, if it was a group of GCSE business studies students running the show. I'm really not exaggerating.
I fully respect your opinions as always MT. We have no idea why they sacked Collins. Lack of form, lack of season ticket sales, fan discontent. Personally I didn't see the point unless they had someone available to bring straight in. Maybe there was such a colossal collapse in and around the dressing room that they thought having him not there even with no replacement was the best option. Any of the above could be true. None of us have any idea. The first call I'd have made when considering sacking Collins would have been to Duff. He's the guy who is a good manager knows the club and half the players and could, conceivably have come in and made an immediate impact. However maybe he's not interested. He's very likely not. Maybe the Board were so annoyed with his departure last time they don't want to revisit employing him. There are no facts in all this that any of us can state. It annoys the hell out of me that some on here (not you) repeatedly rush to turn supposition into fact. Time and time again.
There are some facts though: 1. The Board fired the manager 1 game prior to the end of the season, on the eve of a play campaign that is worth over £10m to the Club with either:- No immediate replacement lined up; or A replacement lined up having not carried out appropriate due diligence regarding his work permit
A campaign worth £10m to the club playing against 3 teams that the manager has previous experience of managing against this season (W2, D2, L2) - and we really should have won one of the draws. I think we'd have more chance with Collins than Devaney - despite the recent run of results.
I think you're mixing up your Thomas's. It was Luke who was publicly slagged off by Barton while on loan at Bristol Rovers. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-rovers-boss-joey-barton-6251316
