As an immigrant .....

..... living in a foreign country, I find this kind of attitude hard to accept as being a carte blanche opposition to immigrants.

If England had an influx of white european immigrants, would you still be saying the same things ?

 

Came across an interesting scenario. A pakistani woman, householder who owns her own house in the centre of Huddersfield, and the adjoining plot, is entitled to a grant of up to £3,000 to assist her in rebuilding her boundary retaining wall. A 90 year old European lady applied for a grant for a level access shower but was refused a grant. It is hardly surprising therefore that if people come across situations like this they feel that the state favours immigrants and is against the indigenous population. Neither the Tories, Libs or government have made any statement to say this financial bigotry will end. Consequence - desparate people will vote for the BNP.

No idea. Just heard of the two incidences last night. One from an architect, the other case from the persons grandson. Personally if someone has assets of some £300,000+ they should receive no grants irrespective of race, colour or creed. A 90 year old pensioner should be entitled to help.

I would guess it's often just a case of knowing how the system works. And a middle-class, middle aged person is far more likely to be aware of that than an old dear. Although why someone with a 300 grand house is applying for such a grant is seriously questionable.

This country has an ageing and without immigration lowering population, no workers means no pension. Then the pensioners would be in real trouble. Its not a black and white issue, most immigrants are not evil criminal dole scroungers, some are, as also are some white Anglo-Saxon residents. i do know one thing though, treat em all like criminals and they will become criminals.
