The problem,as I saw it ,was yet again we came up against a side with a deep sitting midfield player (williamson) who had the space and time to get the ball in acres of space bring the full backs into play or play triangles with the other midfielders or give early ball to rhodes and the other striker coming off our defenders. Its happened loads this year Wigan, watford, blackburn away etc Wilson moved shea into that space to stop that happening which meant the strikers had to split the space along their back 4.Its seemed obvious that jennings had been told to mark a certain area of the pitch when they had the ball.Unfortunately the lad hasnt the experience or nous to go and attack when he could have done. The couple of times he took spurr on he looked like a player.Shea has the pace and energy to be a real threat if used in the correct areas. Agree with a couple of posters - a few weeks since we would have lost the game easy - just like the wigan game when nothing was changed and they passed us to pieces.good point IMHO
This statistic has been quoted before, but I am at a lost to understand it meaning. Does it mean that other players have missed clear goal scoring chances that Paddy has set up. If so, it is a hard one for me to believe because I struggle to remember any.
I think the problem is people Red Rain. We are so blinded by our prejudices that we risk not seeing what other people believe is obvious. Someone said last night that Jennings' cross for the first goal last night was the only decent cross played all season. I referred him to Paddy's beautifully crafted cross on to O'Grady's head that should have been buried (can't remember who the opposition were). The guy conceded that was quite a good one too. Where you see a selfish individual playing on his own, I see a player who is amongst the most naturally gifted I've seen in my 47 years supporting the club. Not only is he capable of brilliance he is also the best passer of a ball at the club. For my part, I can't for the life of me why people would prefer to see the likes of Dawson, Perkins et al. But I respect their right to an opinion, and I guess that's what it's all about.
Am I the only person who finds it funny that the original subject of this thread was simply one word yet the majority of the replies are essays?
