Doug O’Kane looks like he’s back from his holidays now so I’m hoping he’ll be able to do some digging and at least find out who has been interviewed maybe or where we are at in the process as a whole.
To state the obvious... this is all a bit weird. I heard around the same time as the OP posted, that Wilder had been told the job is his. Which was about the same time that betting was suspended. I can completely understand this not being true even though it came from a reliable source. However, the total radio silence is hard to understand. Not from the club mind, but from the media. They've got to be aware of this rumour but nobody is confirming it, denying it, or even reporting that the rumour exists. Then there's the fact that betting is still suspended across all online betting platforms as far as I can see. Surely if there was absolutely nothing to it they would have sussed that by now and reopened betting... It would be easy money for them right? Maybe I'm misunderstanding as I'm not a fan of gambling so have little understanding of how it works. Whether he ends up our manager or not... It feels like there must be something to this.
It is very strange that there is nothing from any media outlets at all. Not one person saying yes or no. But then again there was a media “embargo” on announcing Mads at Luton. Agreed with both clubs. Unfortunately one of the Luton journos messed up and put images out accidentally. Took them straight down but it was too late. Who knows?
Wilder was being heavily backed in the betting, which is why it has been suspended. He'll have been backed into massive odds on, which usually indicates irregular betting patterns or inside knowledge or both. A lot of money must have gone on him last Friday for him to have been backed in from about 10/1 to odds on in a matter of half an hour. The club have kept the appointment close to their chests, so I think the only way betting will be reopened is if Wilder is categorically ruled out.
Based on the club's recent appointments, pre Duff, I'm now starting to think that this will be some left field European appointment. The Wilder rumour was not just on here but it would be hard to see the board going with a manager who is known to want more control of the running of the club than has been afforded to previous managers. Then there is the parlous state of the club's finances, the sale of Mads and maybe a couple of others may be needed to see the club through the season. Hard to think a high profile manager would come here with no budget. All these things point towards a low cost answer. Devaney, possibly, or an under the radar appointment from Europe, hopefully not from the same spreadsheet that brought in the previous two.
Well he/she could start by clarifying what had been signed and on what weekend it was to be disclosed.
Weirdly enough, since they've posted this obvious troll rumour they've set their profile to private so nobody can see their previous posts.
Wouldn't surprise me if it was a Wednesday fan on the wind up tbh. If it is, he's done a hell of a job
