Reports of "running battles between French police and gangs of French youths trying to get into the ground": https://www.skysports.com/football/...208/the-news-gossip-and-latest-updates-column
Must be that "Englishness" thing again. In the specific case of Liverpool, the Hillsbrough chip on the shoulder gives them carte blanche to do as they like.
Blimey! Talk about people on here pre-judging the cause of the situation. Whilst I know Liverpool fans have form it appears to be the case that the 'fake tickets' excuse put forward may not be true either wholly or in part. Facts emerging of legitimate fans , including a BBC reported being pepper sprayed by stewards without provocation (he was stood by a gate that was opening and closing over period of time with absolutely NO fans going through. One Liverpool player had given a friend a "100% legitimate" ticket only for that friend to be refused access on the grounds that it was fake. Given legitimate fans were queuing for hours with gates being kept closed it is not surprising tempers became frayed. Also reports of 'ticketless French youths storming gates are only now emerging . Again, I know LFC's reputation and past history but I believe, on this occasion UEFA and the authorities may be capitalising on that and using it as a smokescreen for their incompetence and total lack of organisation. Disappointingly (and surprisingly in some cases) too many on here have been quick to apportion blame and jumping to conclusions without knowing the full facts. I am NOT a Liverpool fan but I think we should wait for the outcome of the inevitable enquiry before we blame the fans... (remember the blame game post Hillsbro!!)
Evidently fans turned up too late to get in yet families had queued up for 2.1/2hrs only to be pepper sprayed for their trouble.
Really excellent Sky report on what happened - sorry if already posted. I'd only add that there definitely some Liverpool fans scaling the fences, as seen in those earlier clips. Whether they were ticketless, or just fed up of waiting, we'll never know, but there were certainly more fans than seats in that end.
Prejudice takes on many forms. We have some disgraceful prejudice on this forum by some utterly repellant people. Shameful.
Just goes to show that people sat on here should learn to hold their tongue before letting their petty prejudices get the better of them. Disgraceful organisation and policing. When you've got a journalist dragged into a hut and told to delete footage there's serious issues.
I feel a class action brewing against the French police and authorities. tear gassing people (families with young children) coralled in a small area with no means to excape the gas is criminal. Those responisble should be prosecuted and resginations should follow. Outrageous!
I'd hope that some people on this thread will watch this video and vow to not be so judgemental without justification in the future. "Always the Victim". "Can't be bothered to get in the ground on time". It is clear as day from that video that the organisation was a shambles. Shameful.
And guess who's fault it was according to their forums' you guessed it' the police and eufa' nowt if not predictable..
?? I assume you mean LFC forums. Have you actually bothered to read all the reports and watched above SKY report?
Predictable on the grounds that they are right you mean? Thought not… Read the views of respected journalists that were there. Look at what happened. Watch the sky video. This thread is a bloody disgrace. The first four pages are almost unanimous in the assumption of blame because it’s liverpool. You can hardly call out the French police and uefa for thinking it when there’s plenty over here do too - despite the evidence in this case and others showing different. What happened at Heisel was an abomination, make no mistake, there is no excuse - but the behaviour of a minority there led to it being easy to blame supporters for the tragedy in Sheffield in 1989; and for it to take nearly 30 years afterwards to be proven beyond doubt to be false. Even then, we have the views we’ve seen on this thread coming straight to the surface. ‘Always the victims’ comments as though you are a pseudo Man Utd fan with an agenda. Grow up and actually look at what happened. Uefa’s statement is also a disgrace, the late to turn up and fake ticket stuff isn’t cutting anything. I feel for those supporters today, and not because they lost the game.
And the eufa statement is a disgrace why?' Do you have evidence to the contrary' there are countless vids doing the rounds of fans climbing over walls to get in' have they all been faked?' And to say that anyone who deplores this sort of behaviour is a closet man utd fan is just childish and its you that needs to grow up..
