So all trhe goalswe conceded when Muller was in the nets

were from close in?

That is the sign of a bad keeper,
Nick Colgan would stop shots from distance, Muller is supposed to be commanding his area, therefore should not allow goals from close in,

Muller is the best goalkeeper in our history.

I think he makes a slight difference

He has presence - and also his distribution is better than Steels

With his experience he is a better keeper - however Steele is a good keeper too - someone pointed out our goals per game conceded were almost identical.

The key difference is Da Silva - much as I like Bobby Hassel (and think he should be playing in the defence as a first pick) there isnt really any comparison as the key central midfielder

Whether Da Silva comes back the player he was before his injury is a much more concerning item

Some people can only remember the day before yesterday.....FFS

At the begining of the season, Muller gave us points in matches which we would otherwise would have lost or just drawn.

Can't people remember save after save he made at the WELL to keep us in the match.................FFS !!!

Muller is the best player we have got..................end of, full stop, period.
If goalkeepers were valued as much as goal scorers............he would be in the £10 million bracket

RE: I think he makes a slight difference

Before his injury he was rated 2nd best keeper in the Championship.

So I would say he will make a bit more than a slight difference.

The defence have a great trust in Muller and they play better with him behind them because they don't have to be as cautious. They can take a few risks knowing that if a player gets past them they have a bloody giant of a keeper waiting for them.

So did Steele

His performance against Liverpool stands out but he had other good games for us

fact is both of them conceded around 1.4 goals per game - As I said in my post I think Muller is a better keeper but Steele is a very good repacement. Dont think with Muller in goal we would have got many more points than we did with Steele.

If Da Silva had been playing I think that would have made a bigger difference

Dont think he will be any better than Steele

Both have their moments and both can make bad mistakes.
People seem to forget that when Muller was in goal, just how many we conceded from crosses and from close range. Yes I know he makes spectacular stops, but they are for the camera

I know I am not supposed to say anything against him, but he aint that much better than the rest in this division

If the votes for player of the year...

...had been cast in January, Muller would have walked it.

He made such a difference in the first half of the season and the season as a whole had a sort of symmetry to it - concede 4 against Coventry, bring Muller in, Muller makes save after save, Muller gets injured, concede 4 against Coventry the very next game.

Whether he'd make a difference coming in for Steele is a different matter, as Steele has been a very good replacement. Muller is the better keeper and in 30 odd years watching the Reds I don't think we've ever had a better or more commanding keeper.

But whichever keeper would be playing at QPR, they would both suffer from the lack of a solid defence. Hassell is woefully out of his depth in the position we are currently playing him. If Howard leaves him exposed, his poor positional awareness in that position, as well as his discomfort when he gets the ball, could put pressure on the centre backs...

...who suffer from a lack of pace. We really need a quicker player alongside Moore and the obvious answer is to move Foster to his more comfortable position and do likewise with Hassell. Unfortunately, I foresee this happening when we get a suspension. Either Moore ending up the wrong side of a pacy striker and bringing him down, or Souza coming across to cover and launching into one of his rash challenges. Worst case scenario is that Steele is drawn out of his box and brings the striker down.

Hey, this sounds positive doesn't it! But I think we have a decent team, we're just playing players in the wrong positions. England have suffered from creating systems to avoid dropping certain players, and it seems that we are guilty of that too. We have two defensive midfielders at the club who are not injured. One of them might not be terribly fit, but you can say that about a few of the players at the moment. And one may be one his way to Yeovil. But we're persisting in turning a decent (in my opinion) back up full back/centre back into a poor player.

But, as I say, we have a decent squad and probably the most talented squad we've ever had, if you take into account that we have back ups in almost every area of the pitch, so once we get through the injury problems I'm sure that we'll start seeing some decent football at Oakwell.

Is Muller that tall guy about 6'6" with a strange hair do, often stands in goal

Or am I thinking of someone else, cos its obvious the guy I'm on abart is not the same guy as some of the others on here are describing (seestars)

check on the goals we conceded while he was in goal last season.

most of them were inside the six yard box and mainly came from crosses.
He is good on crosse coming from deep, but not so good on crosses from around the box, thats all I am saying. Check it

Nowt to di with the defence then

sure he makes the odd mistake but he is without doubt the best all round Barnsley keeper for bleeding ages

Not getting crosses is to do with the keeper.

letting crosses come in in the first place is down to the defence.

But because I say something I must be wrong eh.

He is right though

Muller did cost us a few goals because he is poor at dealing with crosses close to him and people seem to forget it because they remember the spectacular saves that he does when showing off (ie diving below the ball and then sticking a hand up when steele wouldve just dove at the right height).

Muller is not the god that some make him out to be. Excellent keeper still though but I don't think he is THAT much better than steele. According to Young Nudger that means muller is ****. He must hate steele then because to me it says that we have two really good keepers.
