I've just had a conversation with a fellow Red. He said if he was a BFC 'first choice striker' and got piked off after 48 minutes then surely you'd be sat on the bench thinking that's me done then! We'll wait and see. Just interested in folks thoughts.
With 5 subs this season, there should be a fair amount of rotation. Cole will play for us many more times this season I would guess. Iseka more likely to leave in my opinion.
Same. I think he’s got that bit of spark, that something special. He just doesn’t seem to put the effort in or to “want it” enough. If Duff can get him working hard then he’s possibly a miracle worker but we might also have a serious player on our hands.
No thankyou to May. Rather us get one in on loan, so that we don't have to get rid off May next season when we progress
Next season when we progress! Progress to what? .Plus who says May couldn't score in a lower championship side within the correct playing style.
Well I'd like to think Duff came because he could progress us. I dont think he'd be able to do that spending money on what would then be a 30 year old striker with an horrendous goalscoring record
Cole has become the scapegoat. He’s been bad for us over the last year, but his record at league 1 level is pretty average. He could contribute this year as one of 4-5 forwards. We need better strikers in the squad with him though.
I'm sorry mate, I just don't think a 30 year old with literally 1 good season is the answer to our problems. Just my opinion. I wouldnt mind him here, for now, I just wouldn't pay the 500k+ Cheltenham want for him
Sorry pal,I think you misinterpreted my original post.I just used May as an example cos Duffs worked with him.Unless you are extremely lucky and unearth a gem you ain't going to get a half decent striker at this level without spending that kind of money. I'll give you another scenario,if we were a selling club with a 29 year old 20 goal striker with 1 year left on his contract would you accept anything less than £500,000 ?
I suppose it all depends on the situation were in mate, ideally not, because I'd agree it'd be hard to replace with that money. Woodrow got 16 in 31 games at league one level for us, so I think we already did technically sell one for that price. What I meant is, with Mays record, excluding last season, id prefer wed take a punt on loan with someone like Joseph or George Hirst, save the 500k and put it towards a longer term prospect. Had Mays record been somewhat decent before last season, even at his age, I wouldn't be too opposed to spending that type of money on him. I just think its a very, very big risk. Alot of Cheltenham fans saying he only had a good 6months really. Just don't want us wasting money we don't have. But I do think our wires got crossed a bit, so apologies for that bud.
