    Agreed. He is a benefit of social mobility. It is a shame that he doesn't want anyone to follow him.

    Grammar schools were best for that and it was Labour who scrapped those.

    To be fair, as the child of a fairly well-off businessman living in Wentworth, its not as much of a fight for him as it would be for most of the kids he was at school with while at Wath. No offence meant to anyone living in Wath (my kid goes to Wath Comp now), but some parts are a little on the rough side...

    He did also spend time at Ripon Grammar School before starting at Wath.

    Grammar schools turned out some poor results, no better than Modern schools. Out dated and wanted scrapping

    Yes, his dad sold pop. But he also sent him to Ripon Grammar School before he went to Wath. That is a selective boarding grammar school and needs a fair bit of coin to even consider.

    He is not a 4th or 5th generation miner like many of us on here, which would be true social mobility.
