Yes but he's not the big fish anymore. He can't just have his own way. Agree we miss him, but we move on. He has. Can't stand the bloke.
I can understand that point of view but I don't have to like a player's personality to want him in our team. Take someone like Chris Martin for example - as objectionable a character as you would wish to see on a football field, but I wish we had someone like him in our number nine shirt. Sam is clearly not a nice man (I think we all knew that before he left) but he knows where the goal is (providing he is wearing a red shirt). Today's match was crying out for someone like him.
It's all very frustrating. Players leaving who don't improve as players for doing so. If Fletcher and Isgrove had come back on loan, they would undoubtedly now be better players for having a season of Championship football under their belts. If Winnall and Hourihane had stayed while the end of the season, their personal stock would have risen further and they could have had a greater choice of clubs in the summer. Barnsley FC meanwhile would have benefited in a football sense considerably.
Me too. The guy has no class whatsoever & few friends in the dressing rooms he's been in, both here & at the sty from what's been said. He was great for us I'll admit that but I wouldn't have him back for nowt if he begged us. The manner of his departure & that celebration can never be forgiven.....
Agree with Fired. The man is classless. The fact that so many ex footballers/pundits etc commented or tweeted on what he did, pulling him up about it, shows that that kind of celebration/behaviour is viewed as reprehensible and just not done. He gave us goals but we gave him a platform and the coaching to enable him to make his so called 'big move' The fans loved him and were loyal to him. Singing his name home and away even when it was clear that he didn't want to play for us any more and was going through the motions, witness his performance at Blackpol, stood with his hands on his hips shaking his head at the fans ! Everything I've heard from various sources tell me he wasn't popular and that he was a miserable buggar. No reason to disbelieve that. I met him myself and he WAS a miserable buggar! He's made his bed, let him lie in it. I'd never welcome him back, ever. Not after that display. Classless. What he did will not be admired either by fellow professionals or management. People don't forget things like that celebration !
Clubs with money to spare will snap up best players from teams 'like' Barnsley. If players want to play and hope to get in the national side, they will continue to play to impress, Premier Clubs. If they are interested in money, they will go to the biggest paymaster and go shopping in Asda with their missis on a Saturday afternoon.
Used to worship and love his exploits for us. Can understand his decision to move for money but his disrespect on the day of Rimmo's funeral turned him from hero to total zero for me.
No sympathy. He knew he wasn't likely to play much when Fletcher & Hooper were fit. Possibly a bit unlucky with Rhodes joining shortly after him but that comes with the territory when you join a club who've got a foreign owner throwing money at his latest hobby.
