Wiseman played at full back in the last league game at home. Cost is two goals with completely inept defending and was roundly booed by the crowd and hooked off at half time by his best mate to give the spot to a far superior defender. But its alright 'he's really quick you know'
I think it's more accurate to say one manager (Keith Hill) rated him in L1 and hoped he could develop his talents to turn him into a Championship standard player. He failed to do this and I think ended up realising this for himself after persisting for 18 months. There is now another professional football manager in the Championship (who hasn't achieved much to date) who believes he could do a job but obviously realises there is a risk to the deal, which is probably reflected in the wages offered, which Wiseman has declined. It's probably worth noting he hasn't featured in a match squad since Flicker took over as well. My guess is if Keith Hill found himself managing another Championship team, he wouldn't buy Scott Wiseman for actual money. May be different if he ends up managing in L1/L2 however.
Whether you rate the lad or not It's fair to say the move to Barnsley hasn't worked out for him. Even though the transfer to Blackpool appears to have fallen through, it might be in the interest of both parties (the club & the player) if his agent can find another club for him. We have enough options both at full back and at centre half to cover his departure. Given the reaction of some fans in his last game with regards to his performance, Wiseman will probably be happier away from Barnsley even if it means dropping down a Division or two.
Can we stop being so negative about Wiseman please? As Dragon Tyke is being offended on Scott's behalf. He's obviously the BBS Moral Barometer. I'd like Mr C to represent the Wiseman umbrage in the form of a limited edition potato print. FFS.
Re: Can we stop being so negative about Wiseman please? Still think he'll go, be it to Blackpool on reduced terms or somewhere else, so the sheep can stop bleating. Effectively he has become*a*dead asset in football transfer land. When, say, a thousand-plus*fans boo a player mercilessly his value drops like a stone. If he plays at home again*and something similar happens*then the club*risks*having a toxic asset on its*hands. The*board*are*regularly accused of not knowing how to run*a business properly. Perhaps in this instance they*should be congratulated*for having the acumen to arrange*a six-figure deal*for someone who has turned into the Oakwell whipping boy.
Scott Wiseman typifies Keith's failings as a manager at Barnsley. He is a league 1 quality player and that is being generous. Keith believed he could step up to Championship level as Perkins and Dawson have so impressively. But he was wrong, which was no-one's fault, the limitations of the budget meant that these chances had to be taken. Keith's mistake was to persevere with Wiseman when the rest of us could see he wasn't good enough and had become a liability and by doing this he was putting the lad himself unfairly in the firing line. As things started to wobble for Keith, his misguided self belief insisted that he kept playing him, not because he believed he was good enough but because Keith could and would not admit he was wrong and the rest of us were right. And look where it's got all of us. We're bottom of the league, Keith's out of a job and while Scott was bizarrely offered a career lifeline - it turns out they didn't want to pay him.
Re: Can we stop being so negative about Wiseman please? The sheep? As in the people who have the temerity to call a bad footballer when they see one? Vert apt username. What's with all the asterisks by the way?
Re: Can we stop being so negative about Wiseman please? What's with all the asterisks? Are they there for any particular reason?
I suggest folk watch Player and then realise Wiseman was booed just twice in that game. He got the ball twice, immediately after being a soft, slow, inept basterd and costing us another goal, and was booed by a few hundred imbeciles. After that, nobody booed him. I have said this before, I disagree with booing an individual player of ours. But the way some folk go on you'd think he'd been punched and kicked regularly by the supporters whon pay his wages, and booed from the day he pitched up here pretending to be a footballer. He's been one of the worst players I've ever seen pull on the red shirt, and I've seen hundreds of players. Probably a thousand. But he has only been booed on two instances. In that one game. Bullied? What like the bullying dished out by Hill and Sidekick to many of the players that the vast majority on here deem as our best laikers? Gimme a fcukin break will you.
My apologies for explaining the economic consequences of booing a player en masse. BTW Blackburn scored their second in the 44th minute so the super-fans probably didn't get as much time as they would have liked to properly vent their spleen.
Re: Can we stop being so negative about Wiseman please? I know, can you believe the gaul of some people?
Re: Can we stop being so negative about Wiseman please? They represent the gauls we`ve scored this season. Stop counting it aint true.
You're right they didn't get the chance because he was hauled off at half time cause he was having a shocker, again. We then performed a lot better in the 2nd half with his replacement having a good game. Maybe the change wouldn't have been made without the booing? We should be thanking the booers.
Where's this bullying claim come from.Steele,Foster,Hassell,O'Brian,Dagnell etc have all come out in support of Hill. The only article I read regarding "bullying"was Vaz Te who thanked Hill for getting his career back on track.
I'd like to see him as a full back - that's where he played the first time I saw him. Looked decent to me
