Always remember him running around the Man City pitch in the 80s, dressed as though he was best man at a wedding, when he kept Luton in the old Div 1 - and sent Man City down. Once a lovely person always a lovely person.
Apparently he got attacked, along with quite a few Luton players. Mind you; 12 months previously, Barnsley were at Kenilworth Road for an end-of-season 'bash' where they were promoted and we had nowt to play for. We took 1,500 supporters along and the locals were very giddy to say the least in their celebrations.
Being attacked at Maine Road, Moss side was quite the norm in those days. Scariest ground/area I have ever visted. Black guy once offered to 'mind' my car and like a fool I explained 'it doesn't matter mate it will be ok'. He must have admired my nerve (although in honesty it was more naivety!) as the car was still there in one piece when the game had finished.
which would be the League Cup game, 34,000 there - we won 1-0. Big Trev bullet headed the winner - fantastic build up - quality goal. It never even made the Match of the Day Goal of the month competition.........somethings never change!
