Sorry yes I forgot that. Statement still stands. Nothing in Woodgates brief managerial history to indicate he could have taken them higher
My contribution to this thread is the following observation. There are too many former well known players who have been given coaching jobs, without the skills ane experience required to do so. The UK Associations of coaching is not up to it. None of these former players want to start out at a club like Mansfield or Harrogate, say. They go to clubs who have a big budget and bigger dreams. Everyone is raving about Steven Gerrard at the moment, for winning the Scottish Premiership. The only other team who could have won it, imploded. Could he get Portsmouth or Charlton promoted? Twice in a week, we have been criticised by 2 multimillionaire former players, who are Head Coaches of 2 teams who were in the Premier league recently with excessive budgets. Valerian, I imagine is rather irritated by them but at least he has years of coaching experience behind him and the skills and knowledge of how to adapt to different scenarios. Also,he doesn't need a enormous budget, squad in order to mold a group of players into a team. In 2 years time, Woodgate and Rooney will no longer be employed as coaches, they needn't worry as they have more than enough money to live off. Valerian meanwhile, will be employed at a club somewhere in Europe, hopefully thinking happily about his time at Barnsley FC and the success he had here.
I'm not sure that Woodgate is a multimillionaire, and I really do think his comments are different from Rooney's. People seem to really dislike Woodgate, and I can't quite see why. I also hope you are wrong about Valerien's future quiet continental employment.
He’ll have earned at least £20m over his career in wages and signing on fees. If he’s not got more than 5 left he needs to sack his accountant.
spot on with that Helen. They will be a pain in the arse to play against and we’ll need to be well up for the challenge .
Bournemouth boss Jonathan Woodgate told BBC Radio Solent: "First half I thought we were very good. Second half, it's two different performances. "You've got to match these teams when they come here. Barnsley - they press, they play long ball, they are very direct, they are difficult to play against but you've got to match it. You've got to get the ball down and play like we did in the first half - second half we didn't do it. Ive been a critic of some of our play this season (not the results tho!). However i thought we were great today....and as i found myself getting wound up by the idiot on commentary, i started counting their long balls....and they out numbered ours easily. I thought today was one of the best (football wise) performances since Norwich in the cup. An immence performance today and proves we can play...not sure what Woodgate is on about tbh.
