I think there is an element of luck involved but you need to be clever with your choices initially to uncover vowels etc. I'd say it is more skill than luck personally.

Definitely. Skill for 3 and then 4 seems to be par by looks of what I and most others on here tend to hit perhaps?
My track record would suggest I either get it in 3, or it's next most likely to be 5. Never had a 6 yet though.
Definitely. It doesn't matter how 'clever' your first choice is, you can still get no matches from it, which then makes getting it in two as impossible as getting it in one.
