    Agreed
But you missed out curbing the greed that some on here seem OK with and would rather punish the hard worker by keeping them in their place .

Using the main rate of £6.19 an hour, the minimum wage for a 40-hour week comes to £247.60 a week. Over 52 weeks, this works out at a yearly salary of £12,875.20

According to moneysavingexpert's calculator repayments on a £100,000 property is £474 per month

Average car insurance for a 34 year old is £603 (I suspect you can get much cheaper with a cheaper car, I know mine is half that at 25) which is £50 per month

Average food, gas and electricity, internet, mobile, laundry bills according to university of edinburgh are 140, 50, 20, 10, 10 which is 230

That means his car is insured, all bills paid, mortgage paid at £754 per month leaving him with £1072.93-£754= £318.93 spending money for whatever else which isnt too bad on bang on minimum wage and 40 hour weeks.

I swear it's like talking to my Grandma with you on here. You said in post #38 that the key is being single, then in post #53 you say it's obvious that two income are better than one. So, which is it?

So when you said "the key to that is your (sic) single" you meant something entirely different. I'll put down down the joint if you put down the crack pipe.

I said the key to the point of STs post is him being single .
Not as your implying that the key is BEING single and trying to make a different point as usual.

40 hours a week at minimum wage is £1100 a month after tax.

His mortgage isn't 100k. That's only the property value.

You've also forgotten council tax. Tv package. Clothing. Petrol. Home & contents insurance. Workplace pension.

    Not a bad try though.

I don't see how learning new skills will raise the average wage of people in South Yorkshire. What we need are jobs which pay at least the average wage for the County of Yorkshire.

I was employed in the oil industry and studied for a second degree when I was 49. The result was promotion and a two grand a month pay increase. It's never too late to learn.
