RE: sheff wed away last season walking to tube before the game n getting pinned up against the wall by about 12 de dars n then after game walking to train station no police and having trouble every corner we turned
Bradford PA Can't remember the year but a group of us got chased for what seemed to be miles by a number of irate locals including one particularly large black geezer with a small axe. Also Workington away on a freezing cold Tuesday night for a 0-0 draw returning on a bus that broke down and was without a heater. Enough to test any buggers commitment was that though I was able to laugh about, 40 years on.
Yer wimp West Ham away in the cup. Bloody murder it was. We got ambushed by 1000s after the match and all the windows in the bus were put through. Bus driver got kicked in and couldn't drive. Freezing f'in cold on way home without the windows. That was the time when they had armoured cars outside the ground. Jesus, talk about shittin yersen.
RE: was that the game when kipper jackson ran on and put the ball i nthe net? Kipper didn't put the ball in the net but he did get a kick in midfield after giving his cardi to Tony Coton. Entire away end singing 'There's only one Kipper Jackson'!!
Bradford City in FA Cup early 80's We won 1-0 (Glavin) Mike Lester played for Bradford that day. Pissed it down on the open away end (now their home end) bus got bricked to fck after and then broke down just outside Bradford. Arthur Rowes bus I think. Got home about 4 days later.
RE: Bradford City in FA Cup early 80's Or Millwall when Anderson was in charge. Small bus from The Dove, Millwall's finest trying to storm it at the New Den, then on the way back, one of the passengers shouting something of a mildly racist manner at a one of the locals washing his car. Like Rouke's drift.
And we lost 2-0.

The "Pink Panther" Stoke FA Cup tie Cracking match with Super David Currie and on fire that day. We should have won first time of asking but conceded a late equaliser (where have I heard that before ) to make it 3-3. Funny seeing all the Stoke fans with inflatable mini Pink Panthers. The frightening thing though was the away pens that we were all crammed into. We had the whole of one side of the ground (just the lower tier I think?) and it was all standing, divided into what could be described as cattle stalls. As the crowd poured in the crush just got worse and worse. This was not long after the Hillsbrough disaster and I was starting to fear for my life but somehow we all survived (there were probably some injuries though). I doubt if any of those who plead for the return of terracing will have experienced days like that or Hillsborough. There seemed to be no attempt at control, no limit to the number of people that were allowed in there. It was pretty warm as well. I don't know how old folks or kids got on in that kind of crush - shocking really. PS We won the replay of course 2-1, with that famous Currie back heel to Steve Cooper who then did his fantastic double sommersault celebration for the BBC cameras. RIP Stevie.
RE: Birmingham after 1st leg of playoffs very very frightening was about 14/15 had to take off our shirts and hide them when driving our way out of the surrounding areas of st andrews
"Equaliser" Me and my dad were right on the corner flag and it never crossed the line, it hit the bar, bounced down on the line and was hooked away by Paul Futcher I think, and at no time did I see ANY of the ball inside the goals.
RE: Maine Road dodging bricks & coins I remember that match as well. Tarn fans with bust noses at full time, lots of police on horses, houses with boarded up windows and I tripled my pocket money by picking up coins. God help it if we had won 2-0 instead of them.
Yes I think you are right Without looking it up, I knew it was around about the same time. I suppose the thing is because nothing happened at Stoke then there was no problem....was there!
sureley you can't mean it? them loveable rogues, most sporting fans around you know ! seriously we were there whast a frigging nightmare remember taking a wrong turn and ended up among there busses a bigger set of Barstewards I do'nt think Ive met.
Peter Beagrie was given the freedom of the park though Weaved his way past our defenders as if they were not there (AGAIN, where have I heard that before!). I was on the half way line so could not tell if it had gone in or not but I suppose with 15,000 Stokies screaming for a goal the ref had to give it. Was it Andy D'Urso I wonder?
RE: Yes I think you are right I didn't go to the first game, just the replay. My first ever game standing cos our 47 seats had sold out, I must have been about ten at the time. Utter madness when we scored the winner, I just remember seeing the ball hit the net then a huge surge forwards. Didn't even see the backflip til footy focus that Saturday!
only been attending away matches since 99ish so I'm sure there have been plenty of bad ones prior to that but for me worst away match has to be Donny - we lost, first and last trip to the ground - horrible, Uriah Rennie was ref - rubbish haven't done grimsby otherwise the 6-1 might have been in there! worst ground - doncaster nastiest fans - port vale/birmingham city coldest - cheltenham on a tuesday night
nastiest fans Birmingham Grimsby Norwich Cardiff Soundest - Everton, Ipswich and West Brom all seemed like very good bunches.
