Frankie Boyle

Saw him on Live at the Apollo on Friday night and thought he was piss funny. Never heard him before and was pleasantly surprised.

    The Peter Kaye X-Factor thing

exactly like the thing it was supposed to be taking the piss out of. I used to find Peter Kaye quite funny but ever since he released the live from Manchester DVD that was EXACTLY the same as the other one from the same tour I've concluded that he's nothing more than a half-decent storyteller but also a money-grabbing tw@t who can't do much apart from tell funny stories about working class northerners.

Even worse than Peter Kaye is that gormless nobhead Russell Howard on Mock The Week. How the f**k does he make a living from professional comedy?

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.
Stewart Lee has a couple out. I have them. Happy to let you borrow if you like.

Kitson just tours. No TV, DVDs or anything right now. There is this on YouTube http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TbUqhxPGFXY, which is great but much more mainstream than his non-broadcast material, which tends to combine being hilariously funny, charming, rude, intelligent and challenging.

Only thing wrong with Peter Kay

Except that last show obviously, is his piss taking with DVD releases. Robbing. Poor, already released material

And you can get signed ones from his site, or you could, but he charges £25! When you can get it from Amazon for a tenner!

His stand up is fantastic compared to his panel show appearances.

    Thing with Brigstocke is

I always feel whenever I hear him that I'm being given a sermon by the Socialist Workers' Party/Green lobby.

Like a lot of comedians he'll be fecked once Bush is out of power because half is act is going "isn't George Bush a thick tw@t?".

That said most of what I've heard of him has been on the Now Show.

    RE: Frankie Boyle? Genius? No...

Eh? Are we talking about the same person here? You're not thinking of Alan Carr are you?

Jimmy Carr is one of the most intelligent, witty, quick-firing comedians there is. Have you seen some of his 'fly' stuff - sheer brilliance. Again to the Boyle thing - on Mock the Week he 'appears' brilliant but a lot of his stuff is pre-written with the shows theme in mind. I've seen both Jimmy and Frankie live, and Frankie is an utter, utter disappointment - if you've seen the Apollo stuff, you've seen everything.

RE: The Peter Kaye X-Factor thing

I thought the first one was great - about time somebody sent up the whole reality TV show, voting crap! Two Up - Two Down, I mean come on that was funny. The one at the weekend was just like a repeat, still had me tittering though.

Anyone who brought us Phoenix Nights must be talented!

I also saw him on stage in The Producers and he was brilliant there, loads of ad libbing, had the rest of the cast in stitches. Although you could say that was a bit unprofessional.

No one has mentioned Tim Vine - stupidly hilarious.

His pen behind the ear gag is comedic heaven. Even better watching when drunk.

That was my worry when our lass suggested we see him.

He is a tad left of me politically but there was no preaching - he took the piss out of himself as much as anything. Also had a go at self righteous folk in general, including thsoe who support his views.

There's a lot of Friday night gameshow contestants going to be knackered once Obama takes control.

    Agreed about Boyle

Always thought he was piss funny on MTW and the best performer on there but his live stand up was quite disjointed and mostly repeats of material from Mock the Week. There's a fine line when most of your act is un-pc abuse and sex jokes and Boyle just comes across as bitter after a while and not that funny. Jimmy Carr does similar gags but manages to keep me laughing...

    RE: Frankie Boyle? Genius? No...

Just don't think Jimmy Carr is a good stand-up. I've got his first DVD, and was disappointed. Just seemed like a series of one-liners, one after the other, and so on and so on. There was no story-telling, no improv, no reacting to the crowd. He's a funny guy, I'll give him that, and he does seem quick and intelligent, just think he's a poor stand up. Personally I can only handle Jimmy Carr is relatively short bursts or else I tend to get bored. I think in order to be a genuinely good stand - up, you need more than just a collection of quick jokes. I think that;s why I like Bill Bailey so much - so an array of talent evident in his live shows - obviously he's very, very funny, and manages to tell jokes on a huge range of topics, but he's also clearly incredibly gifted musically.

I'm yet to see Boyle's live dvd so I won't judge on that yet.

Also, no-one has mentioned Ross Noble - don't think I could ever get bored of watching him live, bought all his dvds and they always have me in stitches, just brilliantly funny
