That's the song Crystal & I danced to as our first dance at our evening reception back in 1984! My mate was the DJ and insisted he'd got the perfect song for us!
All the small things - Postmodern Jukebox (with Puddles Pity Party). Truly nasty, and horrendously (for me at least) rebooted last year on the flaming John Lewis ad
Leonard Cohen & John Cale were the only other versions I had heard until Pandora's Box was opened for me. I've not clicked it but Bon Jovi did a version apparently. I'm waiting for Slipknot to do a version of "Morning has Broken" by Cat Stephens. TBH I'm more of a dog person, so whatever.
Everything on that Bruce Springsteen "soul" album......... now, thats reminded me, wheres that worst band ever thread..........
Yep. Cale’s was the one I heard first as a kid, then worked my way back. We should have a thread ‘great songs murdered by the mainstream’. We’ll soon see who really knows owt about music, worth knowing..
I find the squirrel reference a bit offensive. The rest I just put in context. The poodle crosses I walk give squirrels a hard time too. Poor ******* squirrel ********. I know they came over here on boats & invaded us. Sunak will sort it soon no doubt. He'll be in Meanwood Woods throttling squirrels while our old folk die in corridors in hospital.
It's all down to taste...I love the original, but Puddles Pity Party is a great version...totally different but great all the same.
