Werling was a crap left back but he could **** a ball harder than anyone I've ever seen.

Maybe it did but I remember Machin signing about 9 players (Deniol Graham et al) shortly after his sale.

The players in the opposition wall used to literally **** themselves when he was lining it up haha

Didn't he score a Carlos-esque one? Against Plymouth if I remember correctly?

Ferry, Brown, Crooks, Donovan etc. Proportionately more since 2001 than since 1980 when I first went to Oakwell.

based on fee paid plus wages, no contest = Mike Sheron.

In terms of generally *****, Mouinho El Hamouir = weak as pi.s.s.

It did indeed go into building the East stand. I remember a debate at the time whether or not it should be named the Carl Tiler stand

Good memory. This sums him up nicely, a bullet of a free kick then woeful control and cross in the next highlight.

Bailey first half at Preston on Boxing Day was possibly the worst display I've seen from a Barnsley player. But then there is so many to choose from.

his record previous to us getting him was very good, but for some reason he was woeful for us. Onabuje was pretty bad too..but he was liked because he gave it 100% effort.

I liked Werling! You'd never call him solid though.

That team! Stan, Howard, Anderson, Muller - great players.

It still bothers me that Howard blew it all by moving to the blunts - should have been a club legend

In my mind I remembered the shot being better than that, who on earth is that in their net because he didn't have the best of games did he?

Decent memories from that clip, we had some fairly decent players (and some really bad ones) during our time in the championship.

    He wasn't though. It's a myth.

He wasn't as good as we expected, especially considering the finances behind it. But he should be nowhere near threads like this. Especially when we've just watched Leroy Lita.

    Re: Mike Sheron

Agreed. He obviously took too much money out of the club, but he is not alone in that by a long chalk.

I remember a chilly night at Whaddon Road. Cheltenham Town had already shocked us with a 1-1 draw at Oakwell and we needed to put that right with a good win at their ground. We won 3-1 and I was in front of a flag on the fencing proclaiming "Gloucester Reds". There were three of us in that group!

The local press and sources within the club though were drooling at the prospect of playing a team like Barnsley who had the likes of Bruce Dyer and Mike Sheron playing up front. This was a club not long out of the Southern League so you could see their point. We had million pound players in our ranks, and Cheltenham could never dream of such a situation.

I liked Sheron a lot - he was a classy footballer. He just didn't quite give us enough, and that's a shame.
