it keeps getting brought up because we should have gave him another chance and signed him!

just because he moved to sheffield united, who at the time was a good top 8 team, who in coincidence are local rivals.

footballers need to think about themselves. he isn't a barnsley supporter and has no loyalties to us. no1 was bothered when we went on that little unbeaten run under simon davey when howard was on the bench.

if he was to stay with us, he might have turned out to be the next hugo colace, where his heart isn't at the club, would have died out as a player and playing for his local non league side. (i know colace is playing in mexico)

Agreed. Until last season I would probably have said yes but now I'm not so sure.

No, I think too many people are living in the past. He's never going to be as good as he was those first 2-3 seasons he had here. Towards the back end of that season we had our cup run, he only turned up for the big games, disrupted the dressing room and very nearly come to blows with at least 2 team mates on the pitch at Coventry. He's older now, not done anything of note really since leaving Barnsley, imo he's not good enough anymore.

If we were linked with signing any other league 1 midfielder, who'd done nothing of note for 4 years, Keith Hill would be getting slated, but because it's Brian Howard it'd be a good signing? bizzarre.

Hell yeah I’d have him back. He left due to reasons no one understands. Davey fell out with him and then froze him out.

I remember Howard when he was still registered to Sheff Utd jumping around cheering in the Sky Box when we scored during a live game in Sky. He loves the club as much as he possibly could been a Southampton boy.

Don’t get the attitude to him at all. Last time he played at Oakwell he was Reading’s best player.

For a free I’d take him, I know he’s 29 now but still has plenty to offer. But he’s a free and he’d only make us a stronger side. Even from the bench, it adds to the strength of the squad.

And to the comment about Hill saying no in January and we should leave it, didn’t Hill say no to Mellis at the same time?

Hill stated Mellis only had one good game in a reds shirt and said he isn't good enough to play championship level.

next thing we know, he signs for us on a two year deal, of which many havent this pre season, and has been one of our best players.

if howard keeps on turning up for a poor pompey side, hill will take a look.

i'm one of few that have never slated hill bcos of his lower league signings. wiseman is good enough, done is good enough, golbourne is good enough, perkins is good enough, dawson can be good enough and for me, jury is still out on dagnall.

Yes. I think he still has the ability to perform to a high standard in the championship, with the right club

Without a shadow of a doubt.

Championship quality, low wage (given that he has signed for Pompey), point to prove in this league. Definitely worth a one year deal.

Did you hear Flicker's interview on Player?

He said 'Endeavour' 3 times. And even popped in an 'Endeavouring' for good measure.

DNA, layering, overachieve, recovery strategies etc.

It's quite ironic that playing for Sheffield United is his level these days!
