    Don't agree

If he was he'd be playing for Newcastle, he's not good enough to do so; so why should we pay him a prem wage when Newcastle aren't prepared to?

    RE: And your point is?

"my accountant told me that i can pay my staff(only 1 person)up to £3,000 a year as long as it is deemed to be a "gift""

So he works for you now? No?

"likewise you can give to charity without it being taxable on your business."

Since when has BFC been a charity?

You can invest in other businesses and achieve tax breaks only if the business you are investing can be deemed to be a worthwhile cause. Many firms invest in independent film companies for the tax breaks - but not films which they know will not be a success.

Of course my accountant works for me he helps me with the financial side of my business whats so unusual about that and i never said that barnsley are a charity you seemed to be implying that all money is taxable in business and its not.

Bottom line is Chopra is on very good money at Newcastle, hes probably a Championship player rather than a Premiership player but i would personally give money out of my account every week to help pay his wages.

    O K then

Every self employed businessman in Barnsley and Skipton should now donate £3000 p a to BFC by direct debit in the full and certain knowledge that this will not cost them anything as everything will be paid by the tax man. I don't know why nobody has suggested it before. You're right. It makes absolute sense. Pass me the Direct Debit.

The Skipton business owners already invest in Burnley and Blackburn.

    Championship?

Are there any championship clubs willing to take him on loan? If their are I'll bet you my direct debited £5 that he goes there, both for the money and chance of playing at a higher level. And if he does he will deserve a Championship wage.If he doesn't and comes back to us he should get a League 1 wage surely.

I find it very difficult to understand that clubs break wage structures to put players on a higher wage when clearly their not good enough for that wage, if he was he'd be stepping in for an injured Owen as we speak!

    I Know

I've lived here in Skipton for twenty years, all of it working in the business and financial sector and you can't walk down the street without falling over another bloke donating his £3k pa free to his team without it costing him a penny cause the tax man pays it. Specially Blackburn. Very popular round these parts.

    On a serious note

Is it possible to donate/gift/whatever an amount of money to BFC tax deductible or is that ****** ?

It may well be. Whilst journalisting I interviewed a financial advice company who were advocating similar investments for tax purposes - didn't mention football clubs specifically but is worth checking out.

There are lots of loopholes in this area. Sounded interesting but confusing and a bit wrong really - massive, wealthy companies dodging tax. But if it helps small businesses to invest in BFC then so be it.
