We could have a South Pole then.

He made some great full stretch type saves, the sort that look balletic when caught by a good photographer. But shots low down and close to him he struggled with. That free kick being the prime example but there were others. His command of his area, and even his six yard box, is pretty much non-existent. And with the ball at his feet he scared the bejesus out of me.

We need a keeper, but I'd be very surprised if there aren't any available who perform much more consistently across the skilset required by a goalkeeper.

On balance no. I think he started well and is a fantastic shot stopper. His kicking is very poor and that’s a big party of the modern game and command of his area very poor.

    Yes.

I think it’s pretty clear that his form before his injury was much better than after. So much so that I was initially thinking we’ve got no chance of getting him permanently.

I think over the course of the season, he is still in “profit” for points he gained us over what he cost us.

From the chronicle article it certainly sounds like we are talking to him. Unless I’m reading too much into the comment.

Do you know that for certain?

He would be my choice over Roberts or Southwood who is recovering from a broken leg.

That doesn’t really make sense. He performed well when we had a new defence. He played his worst when we had a settled defence.

Would be good to have but not a guaranteed number 1 which I'm guessing he wants to be. I would have him and one other, Killip isnt good enough either.

Sums it up for me. Good shot stopped but so many times a ball in the 6 yard box he struggles to deal with, his kicking and even setting up a wall at times was a struggle. But I think that was confidence towards the end of season we gave his so much work to do he was one of the most tested keepers in the division.

I would say yes with Pines back plus another solid experienced centre half. We'll see how O'keefe and Lofthouse go at right back/wing back, then we need new left/wing back and cover.

    Yes, no brainer for me.
The defence was a shambles. William's out of position for a Start.
If not, Walton, looks like he will be out of contract at the end of the month. Ian's assessment would be welcome.

That's what I meant, he did well with being part of an entirely new defence.i think the injury seemed to slow him a bit, hopefully that will rectify itself sooner rather than later.

    Not for me.

Would prefer a bigger, more physically commanding goalkeeper and who is better with the ball at his feet.

He was probably the best keeper in the league for the first half of the season and hopefully we can protect him more from a defensive point of view next season so I’d have him back.

On balance I voted no for the reasons most have already discussed - but I wouldn’t be hugely disappointed if he was our keeper come August, we could do much worse. I’d prefer a better allrounder; if we go with him I’ve no massive complaints though. We know what we’d be getting.

His fallibilities just outweighed his occasions of brilliance for me - but there would be many league one clubs who’d snap him up I reckon.

Many keepers go though bad spells I rember Adam Davies having a spell glued to his line conceding for fun having no help from his defence.

Yes for me....fantastic first half of season, who regularly made two worldy saves per game and kept us in games.
Imho good players don't become bad overnight...theres always something behind that and all our players voted him player of the season which means THEY rated him and he must have had some kudos in the dressing room.

    Roberts until February yes.

The whole team’s form dropped off a cliff after the transfer window closed.
I bet there wasn’t many keepers in league 1 saw as many shots as him.
