Some people would only have been happy if we'd signed someone who has just had a successful world cup...we are in division 3 - we are signing players who, if we're honest, would have been welcome this time last year in a league higher.
He would score goals for us I'm pretty sure but not the greatest person to have around for team spirit etc but Danny has sorted out tougher nuts than him. Like most others it could go either way. Would represent a statement of intent on our part.
This is wow for me. I'd take him in front of Chris O'Grady anyday. And people piss Danny about at their peril!
He did manage him at bristol city but im sure (correct me if im wrong) he had a massive bust up with him and dropped him on the eve of a play off final, which they i think they lost a few years ago and left soon after. Must have made up now then..
So far we've signed 2, very promising 20 goal strikers from league 2 and the Scottish 2nd Division. If Leroy Lita signed for a 2nd tier Scottish side we'd be tipping him for 30 goals! If he signed for anyone else in this league we'd fear him the day we came up against him. Get him motivated and he's exactly the player we need. On his day he can be ruthless, a ruthless streak in a player is something we haven't had since Vaz Te. If you trust Danny then you have to believe Lita's going to come with a desire to work. I hope it comes off.
He's is 100% a WOW signing, he would tear league 1 to bits! But I would have thought a big target man would suit us better, we have no height
While im quite happy with the signings, I too fear we look to be missing some height upfront. My only other concern is, if as expected we come up against physical sides do we have anyone who can mix it with them or will we be bullied out of these games?
Whenever we've played against him I've always dreaded hearing his name, so that's got to be a good thing if he then signs for us, right?
Don't know how true that is mate. Lita played for two seasons under Danny Wilson at Bristol City. Wilson brought him in to the squad for the 2002-03 season when he was 17&18 but he never actually started a game that season. 16 sub appearances and 4 goals, 2 of which were in a 7-0 victory at Heybridge in the cup. Bristol City finished 3rd but lost in the play-off semi-final to Cardiff. Lita came off the bench in the second leg. In the 2003-04 season he made 30 appearances and scored 5 goals, but only 3 of those were starts, the rest from the bench. He was still a kid finding his feet. Bristol City again finished 3rd, this time they made the play-off final. Lita wasn't in the squad that day, but it was hardly a case of him being dropped. He'd been a sub for the previous four games, twice unused and twice coming on late in the game. He hadn't made the squad at all for the 5 games before that. Wilson was sacked after losing in the play-off final. Lita became first choice striker the following season and scored a load of goals earning a £million move to Reading, but after 2 season finishing 3rd City didn't make the play-offs.
[SUP][/SUP] That's what I usually think anyway. He seems to be one of those players that always causes us problems
