They’ll bring in Frank Lampard. If he doesn’t go, you’d think Eddie Howe would be above Ismael in the queue too.

You’d also imagine their fans would prefer both ‘names’ - though purely on ability you’d think they’d do well to have a good look at Val in all fairness. Hope they don’t.

If we don't go up, I'd be very surprised to see Ismael here next season. Wouldn't be surprised to see someone like West Brom take a punt.

Sad to see Hodgson step down. Respectful, knowledgeable and decent. A rare breed nowadays.

I’m quite pleased he’s stepped down.

It means he bows out on his terms after another successful season in realistic terms. He’s not getting any younger, and I get the feeling he’ll be in the game, be it in broadcasting or in a back room/sporting director kind of role. He’s a very intelligent guy, multilingual and has probably forgotten more about football than most on this forum will ever know.

Didn’t work for him with England (but then who did?), but it has to be said in club football he’s done very well. Liverpool pressed the button a bit too quickly you’d think but his record at Fulham, West Brom and Palace is pretty solid; and his career all around Europe backs that up too.

Having said it’s on his terms, I sincerely hope that palace haven’t given him a gentle nudge. At least if they have they’ve let him go himself rather than callously sack him like Newcastle did to Bobby Robson.

Be sad to see him go but I'd back us to bring a new Head Coach from Europe.

Top manager is Hodgson. He's been a success all over the place. No need to panic they won't want our head coach. Lazy journalism linking an ex player.

Tell you really hacks me off, people saying Woy Hodgson in some lame attempt at humour. I grew up with a speech impediment and it's bloody cruel when you get bullied for not being able to pronounce your own name.

I don’t think a premier league team would take a gamble on Big Val. I think the biggest risk is a championship team with a bigger budget ( I thought Sheffield United would have a look at him) or back home to France to be with his family.

I would like to think he will be with us for at least one full season next year, be it in the Premier League or Championship

Thinking the same. I think the same about Mowatt as well.

No chance Val will end up there.
Would be more worried about someone like WBA

Roy has been great manager and a fantastic servant to football. I really wanted him to succeed in the England job, and thought he could have been afforded a bit more time by the FA. Really hope he gets a win in his last game at Anfield to deny Liverpool a top four position. That would be some real karma for the way some Liverpool fans treated him at the end of his tenure there.

I rate Roy as a manger. His Fulham side were terrific. He also made me care again about the England national side too. Brought some vitality back. In terms of Valerian, short of actually being promoted, there's no way he'll still be at Oakwell next season. Like Struber he is here to be noticed and move up the ladder. His stock his high so for him now's the time. Personally I'm comfortable with that. Got used to it. Perhaps the next guy will keep the press, but play more football on the ground. Who knows.

I had a teacher at school who had a really bad stutter on his T's. His name was Mr Taylor.

    Boy did we laugh…

I was 12 at the time.

Roy Hodgson is and has been a terrific manager and comes across as a really decent man, to focus on the mans speech impediment is a little disingenuous and a more than a little disappointing.

Not let him hold him back though, wish I could speak all the languages that he can. One of the best managers of recent times.

We all love Big Val but what lazy journalism. Former player doing well at another club so we should link him with the position. I don't see them replacing a guy who's been successful around the world and managed his country with someone who hasn't even had a full season in charge in the league below yet. I don't think the Palace fans would be happy with it either as he was a poor player for him so it's not like giving it to a club legend like Chelsea did with Lampard.

Tbh he barely played for Palace and as you say it was a massive learning curve for him. If he got the job I'd be surprised, put it that way
