Oh, definitely. I wouldn't begrudge him the move. Especially as I doubt he's made big money in the game. I still see him as a vital part of our attack though.
If we can pick up a small fee for him I really wouldn’t be fussed as long as we spend some money on a proven league 1 striker or above. He’s 32, past his prime, only manages 60 minutes a game.
But we won't. Norwood has qualities that none of our other strikers have and I'm not sure we'd get anyone similar in.
I’d be very sorry to see him go but if he makes a bit of money out of it then good luck to him. He owes us nothing.
I think he's important on and off the field for us' i would have thought that any fee would be nominal due to his age' i'd rather he stayed' that said the movie star owners may pay him more than we do.
He is more important off the field. Last season he scored 12 league goals in 45 so just over 1 every 4 I'd hope the new lads could score more than that. But he is good for the young lads to have around. I agree with SD his comments to the Yorkshire Post suggested he was abit disappointed with recruitment.
12 in 45... how many minutes and starts was that? I'd estimate he didn't start more than 25 and probably averaged 45 mins an appearance. Which would be 12 in 22.5 lots of 90 mins, etc.
I'm not disputing that but that was Mr here for the long hauls choice how many times he started. He never lasted a full 90. He probably should have started the final over tedic and many other games for me but if he had he would have gone off after 60.
Tbh Redrum how many could go the full 90 at his output. Val used most of our strikers to go full pelt from the off. How many went the full 90. It's a tactic well used in the press. I remember Bullock and Marcelle used in a similar fashion.
Big loss if he did go - it’s not just his goals, but his constant harassing of defenders and dark arts. He’s a proven striker at this level - and would need replacing with similar if he did go. Not in our interests overall.
I’d let James decide who he wants to play for. I can see his opportunities getting slimmer here. Especially when we sign Cal Jennings in January..
I'm not so sure he's past his prime though. Apparently strikers peak for mental awareness somewhere in their 30's. It just depends whether their legs are still working fine, which Norwood's certainly are (so far). I'm fully aware that they could well start giving in soon which is why if anyone is willing to pay money for him we'd have to at least consider it. But he's a very important player to us, so I certainly wouldn't be giving him away on the cheap. Plus he may not want to drop down a division anyway.
James Norwood turns 33 in September. I'm guessing the wages Wrexham could offer plus playing alongside a good mate of his may well make it well worth considering. We will see.
Apples and oranges. Sharp at his age still knows where the onion bag is but isn’t going to tirelessly harass opposition defenders and not give them a second to think like Norwood does. I tongue in cheek suggested we take Mullin as a swap (before he punctured his lung), obviously that was never going to happen. There is no benefit to Barnsley in losing Norwood, no fee we’d likely get would allow us to bring in a like for like replacement. So unless they offer daft money, and I mean in seven figures territory, then there’s no point. Norwood might well want to go, (no idea either way), but that doesn’t mean we can’t hold out for a proper price. It also might all be absolute cak with no substance to it whatsoever - Nixon has form for it.
