It wasn’t though. They knew they had the fans and could maximise income because of that. They had to put money in to get that income quickly. For example: 100,000 new fans suddenly want a Wrexham shirt. Money has to be spent to manufacture them. By putting that money into the they allowed the club to gain the income quickly.
There's always an element of risk to spending anticipated income before you actually have it. It's always gambling to some degree.
I agree but massive difference between that and what clubs like Wednesday have been doing gambling for promotion
They don’t have a lot of fans though, and never have.http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/nonleague/wrex.htm The only reason they have more fans than they did is because of the ownership.
It is gambling mate, make no mistake about it. It’s as if we’ve never seen lower league clubs do it and come a cropper. The fans are only there for the glory, all but a few thousand of them know nothing else. The owners haven’t had any struggles yet. Once they start trying to be competitive in the championship, it’ll be new experience for them. They might want to stick, but the fans will no doubt want them to twist at that point, and go for the Prem.
I never mentioned attendances. They do have a lot of fans, they're just not local to the stadium. I've never disputed this. The fact is they do have a lot more fans now and they're making money off those fans.
Didn't we (under John Dennis) make that mistake as well, with the promised money from Itv digital, not coming because they collapsed ?. And there you see, this has absolutely nothing to do with Mr Reynolds Fc.
They sold 24,000 shirts last season. I’d bet not many teams in the championship hit that number if any. Who are they selling them to if not fans? Doesn’t matter if they’re only fans because of who the owners are or if they don’t live in the UK, they’re still fans that are clearly willing to pay money to the club.
The TV money affected a lot of clubs, also affected banks confidence in those they dealt with. I have a business overdraft. Sometimes I go into it if I’m waiting to get paid myself, would you say I was a risky sort of bloke?
Why? Other than jealousy? Without new fans football will die. Most people just support whoever their Mum/Dad/Family supports. That’s no more meaningful than deciding to support a club because of who the owner is imo.
That's a really, really weird take. Family and community ties are as meaningful as just picking up a team because a celebrity bought them?
