Even the very top guys don't get paid well. I believe they get like 2 million dollars a year if they are lucky and that's not a lot for being on the road over 250 days a year and wrestling 4 nights a week. That's in WWE as well it's much less pay elsewhere. WWE isn't a sport it's sports entertainment. It's not fake either it's scripted. Much like movies and television shows people have no problem watching only sports entertainment is more dangerous, more skilled and has to come off first time due to performing in front of a live crowd.

Not compared to other sports. Especially not for people in that lifestyle of risking their life, risking permanent injury, being at home only like two days a week etc.

I don't think that the reason people want to see somebody win or lose is down to them believing it is real at all. You aren't thinking enough if thats how you see it.

Try looking at it from the point of view of you find it entertaining like you do with any TV show that you watch. Now imagine that on this TV show there are one or two characters that are on almost every night, after a while they're going to get boring aren't they so you might want something to happen to these characters or change in the show that will mean other characters are focused on for a while instead of the one or two that you're bored of seeing every night (would anyone still watch coronation street if every episode was still focused on Roy and Hayleys relationship?). Wrestling is much the same and people might get bored of seeing the same people each week and therefore want to see them lose in order to see their opponent focused on for a while.

Or think of it as music for example, you've got one band miming at all their concerts and going through the motions to pick up their paycheck and then you've got another band who you can tell are putting their heart and soul into performing for you. They're singing live and they're putting on a real show because you can tell they love to look out from the stage and see the fans happy.

That's no different than wrestling either, some wrestlers put more into it than others and it shows and that is why people want to see them win because even if it is 'fake' it is still a reward for the wrestler to be given a championship belt. It's not just a random thing who gets to be a champion in the likes of the WWE, its a case of them having to earn it by putting in the effort and developing the skills. Ok so they aren't actually beating someone up and winning a fight but what they are doing is putting in effort to make it look real and the more effort they put in to that then the greater the performance is, the more effort they put in to learning mic skills then the more believable it is when theyre talking on the microphone and so on. It's fake but the skills they display are real otherwise you and I could get on camera and look just like anyone from the world of wrestling which of course we couldn't because we havent got those skills and that is why people might want to see someone win to see them become a champion because it is a kind of reward for their effort to make your evening more entertaining.

Do a search for Jeff Hardy on youtube, you'll see what I mean. Just an ordinary guy with a pretty average body who clearly put a lot of effort into entertaining the fans and in return the fans wanted him to win because his reward was being named champion (which allows him to get a better contract and more money). Its fake but the reward for him is real and the entertainment for the fans is real. Also the risks that he takes are real. When jumping head first off a 20 foot high platform there is a real risk of something going wrong which is why only a very select group of wrestlers are willing to do it and when they do the fans love it so they want him to win more matches and be seen on TV more often.

Another way to look at it is that you like films right? Well some of the actors are clearly better than others and are more entertaining. Imagine if your favourite actors kept getting killed off in the first 5 minutes of a film and you were left with the crap supporting actors to carry the film. You'd soon start wanting your favourite actor to survive in films even though you know they're fake.

Considering the recent behaviour of the spot monkey Jeff Hardy he's probably not the best example to give as someone to search for :D :D :D
