The debate ought to be whether you agree with the current rules of the game. Make no mistake under the current directives it was a red card. He was actually very fortunate that Nani jumped out of the way.
You cant go on that picture any nuber of slide tackles would show studs showing after the event and as I rember it (only saw it once mind) it was only a two footed tackle in the sense one foot went in followed by the other not the classic going in with both feet simultaneously and jumping down.I'd have given it a yellow but nothing more.
regardless of whether it was or wasn't a red card tackle (wasn't imo)..........it was Rooney who got him sent off, so absolute zero chance of an appeal being successful.........didn't like it when the winker did it to him in the Euros did he.
That shows after impact. I bet 90% of slide tackles would look like that after the ball's been taken. Superbly timed challenge, but unfortunately it's a red card under the laws of the game. Unless you're Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard...
I can see why it was given as a red. 2 footed, without a doubt. Kompany had no need to go in with both feet, he made that decision, he knows what the consequences are. I don't think at any moment thought did he intend to catch Nani, he was in control enough to know impact wasn't going to happen. Given the game maybe a yellow and severe warning from ref would have done.
Two feet before the challenge yes, in the tackle no. If they don't rescind that red, the game is dead. I'd have applauded any of our players for a great tackle like that. Decisive, firm, fair. Speaks volumes that that serial whinger Nani made NO complaint whatsoever, just turned and tried to get the ball back. Even he knew it wasn't a foul.
Still don't believe it was even a foul Heard a lot of people say that if Nani hadn't got out of the way he could have been seriously hurt. But he did get out of the way. That's the difference between a tackle and a foul. When you foul someone you don't give them a chance to get out of the way. You're reckless to the point that the other player cannot avoid the impact. But Nani could avoid the impact. He rode the tackle, like footballers have done for well over a century now. It can't be reckless and dangerous if you allow space for your opponent to avoid the challenge. Vincent Kompany clearly won the ball. He clearly didn't touch the opponent. As far as I'm concerned that can in no way be a foul.
