It does look nice, but it's a shame to see another club moving out to a retail park in the middle of nowhere. York's such a nice walkable city too.
Yes, that definitely rings a bell! I remember giving him a load of stick that day, but as I never liked him even when he played for us, it just didn't click that he was actually playing for the opposition!
We managed to get on the halfway line. Pretty grim at both ends but could see both nets. How far was he out with that header. Cos I could swear he was only just inside the area. Or my memory is playing tricks cos I can’t believe he was that far out to attempt the diving header.
Oh yes, so I did. But as it gave us 24 hours extra boozing time, it wasn't a big problem from what I remember!
Evening all. I've voyeured for years after initially posting many moons ago. That ended in a spat with Dragon Tyke, so I'm already part of a big club! No hard feelings. Now seemed an appropriate time to dip in again as York City 1967 was my first game my father took me to as a little kid. Looking forward to more engaging times.
He did have a stroke later. I think at the time there was a suggestion that the two events were linked...
I was at that game Micky. Start of the Allan Clarke era. A time when we used to go to away games and often outnumber the home support. Always out sang them. Average age of our supporters? About 17 years! I don’t know if my memory is playing tricks on me but I’m sure Clarke turned us out in an all white strip.....on what was the foggiest match I ever attended. The man practically invented ‘shithousery’
I've had a look at the history books and (I think) you're almost certainly right. Barry Murphy was indeed our first substitute on the 29th October 1965 in the 1-5 home defeat to Donny. Can't find out who he replaced though. Interestingly, and I didn't know this until now, during the first two seasons after the law was introduced, the substitute could only replace an injured player. It wasn't until the 1967/8 seasons when subs could be done for tactical reasons
I’ve been to the delightful Bootham Crescent many times and it was sad knowing that the last visit would likely be our pre-season friendly a couple of years ago. Jon Parkin was up front for them but he couldn’t inspire his team and we won 7-1.
